Memorial tourney back for 8th edition

The Opie/Coxie Open, one of the season’s most popular one-day golf tournaments at Dominion Meadows Golf Course, will be held Saturday, July 16.

To date, the benefit scramble golf tournament has raised more than $152,000. Of that total, more than $130,000 has been utilized to help area youngsters in a variety of ways.

The first eight Opie/Coxie Open tourneys have raised funds for everything from the Elks Lodge No. 1753 Therapy Program for Children to sports equipment for youth, camps and the Special Olympics.

This fun event, open to golfers of all ability levels, raises money for the non-profit Opie-Coxie organization.

All proceeds from one of the most popular golf tournaments on the Dominion Meadows calendar each season are used to support youth in the area. Funds are utilized to help young people participate in sports or educational programs they might not otherwise be able to afford.

The organization motto: “No child will be left out…not if the Opie-Coxie can do anything about it!”

Scramble golf is the format for the four to five-person teams. Entry fee is still $45 per person (four or five-person teams). The entry fee includes golf, dinner and a full day of fun.

There will also be silent and live auctions.

Among the auction items donated by generous local merchants and residents are massages, loads of gravel, a four-drawer tool chest, tickets to Silverwood, a stay at Bull Hill Guest Ranch, a Heritage Lake stay, golf packages, original art work, Spokane Indians’ tickets, a laser signed Russell Wilson football and four box seat tickets to a Seattle Mariners game and overnight accommodations—and a lot more.

Check-in for the tournament starts at 8 a.m. Scramble golf starts at 9 a.m. at Dominion Meadows Golf Course.

As usual, there will also be skill prizes for long putts and KP’s…and those crazy hats and skirts to wear.

If you are not a golfer and can’t make it to the course on Saturday to play in a fun format, you can still come up for dinner and the auctions.

Dinner will start at about 3 p.m. (following golf).
