Red Cross brings free smoke detectors to residents - June 11

The American Red Cross is teaming up with emergency response partners across the country to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next five years through outreach and education. Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a fire. The Red Cross Home Fire Campaign focuses on going door-to-door to install free smoke alarms, check existing alarms, and educate residents about creating fire escape plans.

On June 11 (previously June 4) the Red Cross will be going through several Colville neighborhoods beginning at 9 a.m. to install free smoke alarms in homes that need them and teach people about what they can do to be prepared should a fire break out in their home. Anyone interested in having free smoke alarms installed or existing alarms checked should call (509) 252-5310 to schedule an appointment with a home fire safety team. If leaving a message, please indicate if you would prefer a morning (9:00am-noon) or afternoon (1:00-4:00pm) appointment. Appointments can also be requested at This service is free and available to everyone.
