Sign-up time for Colville Valley youth baseball players

No snow onarea fieldsThe Colville Valley U-12 Baseball League in Colville and Kettle Falls is gearing up for the season.Warmer than the norm temperatures have many people thinking baseball.The league, which serves youngsters in Colville, Kettle Falls, Northport and Inchelium, has started its registration process for both Colville and Kettle Falls teams, according to sponsoring Colville Kiwanis Club spokesman and league commissioner, Bob Meshishnek.Assuming many of Meshishnek’s league duties this year will be Pastor Eric Ohrtman. Colville and Kettle Falls players are reminded that the registration deadline is March 20. Registration fee is $30 ($35 after March 20). Make checks payable to Colville Kiwanis.Completed registration information and fees can be turned in at Clark’s All Sports in Colville or to the appropriate school secretary.Pick up registration information at area schools and at Clark’s All-Sports.Registration deadline is March 20. Major/Minor League games will begin on April 20.The annual tournament starts on June 1.Rookie League (ages 7-8) practices start on April 20 and games start on April 27. Coach/player notification is scheduled for April 17. To be eligible to play in the Colville Valley Major League, a youngster has to be 12 or under by April 30, 2015. Major League tryouts for Colville players will be Wednesday, April 1 at the Colville City Park baseball field. Tryouts will start at 3:30 p.m.Minor League tryouts in Colville will be April 2 at 3:30 p.m.Major/Minor League tryouts for Kettle Falls’ players will be Tuesday, March 30 at the Kettle Falls baseball field (adjacent to the city pool). Tryouts will start at 3:30 p.m.To be eligible to play Minor League baseball in the Colville Valley U-12 League, players must be 10 or under by April 30, 2015.According to Meshishnek and Ohrtman,, tryouts are necessary for players who are “new or moving up to a different league.”Failure to attend tryouts will result in placement by the league commissioner on a team “of his choice.”Meshishnek added that all players will be placed on a team.Practices for both Major and Minor Leagues will start April 13. Games will start on April 20. The circuit’s Rookie League (ages 7-8) will start their season on April 27. To be eligible to play Rookie League, players must be age seven by Sept. 1, 2015 or eight and under by April 30, 2015. There are no tryout sessions for Rookie League players. Those players will be placed on a team and notified by their coaches by April 16. Baseball team hats and socks are the responsibility of each individual player, Meshishnek said.
