Sliding mud on Monumental

These photos depict the aftermath of the second mudslide to occur on Monumental Mountain (west of Colville) this year. The first mudslide occurred higher up Monumental Mountain Road. This recent mudslide is on Fay Hill, on the Gold Creek Loop Road. According to photographer Richard Willner, the mudslide was discovered Saturday and the road was closed off. “Fay Hill has had mudslides in the past, about once every 20 years,” noted Willner. “In the area where the slides normally accrue there are small cracks in the gravel and mud along the pavement. Makes me wonder if the hill is done sliding yet.”
