The 2016 summer Olympic Games opened on Friday night in Rio de Janeiro with a message about taking care of our planet. The three-hour ceremony included fireworks that spelled "Rio" in the sky and a display of traditional Brazilian music. There was also a focus on Brazil's indigenous people and biodiversity. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appeared on a video broadcast asking "all warring parties to lay down their weapons" during the two weeks of the Olympic Games. A tree in the shape of a peace sign was projected on the floor of the stadium and athletes from 205 nations marched in with their country's flags.
