WDFW offers free fishing until Aug. 30

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildelife (WDFW) is offering “free fishing” days through August 30 while the agency’s license sales system is down.

Earlier this weel, WDFW tempirarily suspended the sale of fishing and hunting licenses. The agency is working with the state Office of Cyber Security (OCS) to investigate vulnerability in an outside vendor’s lcense sales system. The agency is working to restore sales as soon as possible.

In the meantime, WDFW will not require anglers to have a fishing license to fish or father shellfish in any waters open to finishing in Washington from August 26-30, according to Jim Unsworth, WDFW director. Anglers will also not be required to have vehicle access passes to park at WDFW water access sites. Other rules still remain in effect.
