

Stevens County Athletes Prowl the Podium at Glenn Wolf

Whittekiend's distance sweep, Ortiz's 800 win, and Colville girls relay title lead standout performances.
There were several first-place finishes by Stevens County athletes at the Glenn Wolf Invite on Friday, April 3, in Deer Park.
Chewelah’s Justice Whittekiend led the way with a dominant distance double, winning both the 1,600 meters (4:32.17) and 3,200 meters (10:15.92). Colville’s Malik Ortiz also delivered a first-place finish, capturing the 800 meters in 2:02.52, while teammate Reese Titus placed 10th. Several other Crimson Hawks runners added depth in the event as well. In sprints, Chewelah’s AJ Kent placed sixth in the 100 meters (11.91) and fifth in the 200 meters (24.42), while Colville’s Baxter Phipps took sixth in the 200 meters (24.65).
Colville athletes also showed strength in the distance and field events. Calvin Beardslee placed ninth in the 1,600 (4:52.02), while Ezra Forester recorded a third-place finish in the shot put (47 feet). The Crimson Hawks added strong finishes in the javelin, with Phipps placing fifth (125 feet, 7 inches) and David Jabaay sixth (122 feet, 6 inches). In unified competition, Colville swept the top two spots in the 100 meters with Landon Timmering and Asher Nigg.
Northport athletes were competitive across multiple events, led by Trae Smith, who placed fifth in the 400 meters (53.93) and eighth in the 200 meters (25.07). Canyon Hoskins added a strong showing in distance events, finishing 23rd in the 1,600 and eighth in the 3,200 (11:31.19). The Mustangs also placed sixth in the 4x100 relay and fifth in the 4x400 relay.
Mary Walker athletes also made an impact, with Maddox Tapscott placing eighth in the 200 meters (25.07) and sixth in the 400 meters (55.37). Jeremy Metlow and Caden Vorseth contributed solid finishes in both the 400 and 800 meters, while the Chargers added depth throughout the meet.
On the girls side, Colville led the way with a first-place finish in the 4x200 relay, as Natana Sloan, Ellie Malone, Hayden Ortner, and Andee Kroiss combined for a winning time of 1:53.01. The Crimson Hawks also saw success individually, with Ortner placing third in the 100 meters (13.69) and sixth in the 200 meters (28.15), while Zaidence Zier took fourth in the 800 meters (2:39.52) and added a runner-up finish in the 1,600 meters (5:44.24). In the field events, Kroiss placed second in the triple jump (32 feet, 4 inches) and added a top-10 finish in the long jump.
Chewelah athletes also had a strong showing, highlighted by a second-place finish from Rin Parsons in the 400 meters (1:02.98) and a third-place finish in the 200 meters (27.55). The Cougars’ 4x200 relay team placed second overall, while distance runner Elise Warren finished fifth in the 3,200 meters (13:22.46) and sixth in the 1,600 meters.
