Honoring the Past: Mural Highlights Cultural Legacy

The Stevens County Historical Society will be unveiling the museum’s  new mural on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 12:30 p.m.. The mural, painted by local artist Jami Rose Lord, is based off of an original photograph of the Columbia River’s Kettle Falls from nearly 100 years ago.

NEW Hunger Coalition Gets Fresh

The Northeast Washington (NEW) Hunger Coalition will be awarded the Fresh Results Award for their Grow Your Own Row program on Friday, July 11. The nonprofit organization that serves food pantries and community partners in Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Oreille counties, is focused on advocacy and education for food pantry efforts as well as building emergency food systems in rural areas.

Last Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were earthquake days for the west and northwest. The shock was felt more at the Colville Flour Mill than any other place in the valley. John Bresnahan stated that the building swayed back and forth, and he estimated that at the top of the building, the swaying was about six inches.

Five Local Brothers That Served in Vietnam to be Recognized With Quilts, Aug. 17

Five brothers who served in the Vietnam War and returned home safely will be honored in a ceremony hosted by Cuppa Tea Quilting and the Quilts of Valor Foundation on Saturday, August 17, in Priest River, ID. Allen Thueringer of Colville is one of those brothers.
