Community Needs More Youth Programs
To the Editor,
I’ve lived in Deer Park for 22 years and raised three children here. While our schools and parks are wonderful, I’ve noticed a sharp decline in structured activities for middle and high school youth.
With sports cuts, limited arts programs, and fewer community events, our teens are left with too much idle time and too few safe spaces. I urge the city council and local organizations to consider funding accessible youth programming.
Our future depends on how we invest in our kids today.

Thanks for Cleaning Up Main Street
Dear Editor,
I want to take a moment to publicly thank the volunteers who participated in the Main Street Beautification Day last weekend. It was incredible to see families, business owners, and students all working side by side to plant flowers, repaint signs, and sweep up the sidewalks.
This kind of hands-on community care reminds me why I love living in a small town. A little elbow grease and neighborly pride go a long way.

Let’s Fix the Deer Park Pool
To the Editor,
Every summer, hundreds of local families rely on the city pool as a place to cool off, get exercise, and stay connected. But as many residents have noticed, the Deer Park Pool is in desperate need of repairs. The diving board is unsafe, the bathrooms are unsanitary, and the hours have been cut.
I urge city officials to prioritize funding for pool maintenance and upgrades. Recreation shouldn’t just be for those who can afford private clubs. Our public spaces matter.

Support Our Local Farmers
Dear Editor,
I recently visited the farmers market in Colville and was reminded of the incredible bounty our local producers offer — from fresh vegetables to handmade soaps to honey and preserves.
In an age of mega-retailers and convenience shopping, I hope more families will take the time to buy local. Supporting small farms and artisans keeps our economy strong, our food fresh, and our community connected.
Let’s not take for granted the value of knowing where our food comes from.
