Kettle Falls’ softball season ended Friday, May 8, with a pair of losses in the District 6 2B tournament at Dwight Merkel Field.

Ryen McMillin threw a no-hitter and helped lead Chewelah at the plate as the Cougars baseball team eliminated Newport 10-0 in six innings.

Colville track and field athletes made the best of one of their last regular season matches Thursday, May 7, at the Lakeside Last Chance meet.

Chewelah’s girls tennis team captured the district title and are slated to send three athletes to the state tournament after a strong showing at the 1B/2B district tournament.

Kettle Falls senior Mace Thivierge continued his strong postseason run at the District 6 2B boys golf championships, finishing third overall and earning a trip to the state tournament.

The Northport boys were led by strong relay finishes and several top-three individual efforts in the hurdles, jumps and throws at the Lakeside Last Chance track and field meet at Lakeside High School.

Colville closed the regular baseball season with a lopsided win over Riverside, then as the No. 2 seed in the NEA League, split the first two games of its district playoff series with Medical Lake to force a deciding game on May 12

Kettle Falls baseball won three of four games last week, sweeping three games from Davenport and falling to Colville to move to 6-10 on the season. Cody Adams showed himself to be a power on the mound, allowing zero hits in two appearances this week. 

Kettle Falls opened with a 27-4 win over Davenport in the first game, scoring 16 runs in the sixth inning to cap another strong offensive showing. The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits, 18 walks, and 26 RBIs.

League Meet at Valley Christian
The Mustangs were led on the boys side by Trae Smith, Pete Beardslee, and Canyon Hoskins, along with two strong relay finishes.

The Cougars opened the week with a 2-0 loss to Northwest Christian on April 21. The Crusaders scored both of their runs in the second inning and held Chewelah to one hit, by Nicole Turner. 

Colville High School’s Rocket Club is headed to the national stage after qualifying as one of 100 finalists in the American Rocketry Challenge. 

The Crimson Hawks opened the week with a 9-4 loss to Northwest Christian on April 20. Northwest Christian scored twice in the first inning and added five runs in the second to take control early.

Colville’s girls tennis team continued a strong stretch with dual wins over Riverside and Kettle Falls, while the Crimson Hawks also gained valuable experience against a large regional field at the 79th Inland Empire Tennis Tournament.

The Colville girls finished first on April 22 with a team score of 398. Medical Lake was second at 446, followed by Riverside at 477, and Lakeside at 483.

Chewelah and Kettle Falls track athletes turned in several top-three finishes on April 22 during the NE2B League Meet No. 2 at Snyder Field in Chewelah. For team scoring, the Chewelah boys placed third, while the Kettle Falls girls team did the same.

Colville baseball continues to pile up the wins, achieving the No. 6 spot in the 1A classification Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rankings.

On the boys side, Kettle Falls’ Mace Thivierge posted the top local score of 82. He finished among the best rounds listed at the tournament, behind Northwest Christian’s Dylan Zimmerman, who shot a 79, St. George’s Matthew Longstreth, who carded an 80, and Davenport’s Mac Larmer, who shot an 81.

The tournament, held April 24-25, featured 57 schools and 798 athletes, giving small-school players a chance to test themselves against athletes from larger programs.

Colville’s boys soccer team pushed its winning streak to three matches last week, picking up a 5-2 victory over Newport on April 14, following it with a 7-1 Northeast A league win over Riverside on April 16.

Kettle Falls’ softball team showed plenty of offensive punch during a busy four-game stretch last week, but the Bulldogs came away 1-3 against Lakeside and Northwest Christian to move to 3-10 on the season.

Chewelah’s boys finished seventh in the team standings with 47 points, led by a big day from Francis Sety. Sety won the 400 meters in 52.98 seconds, captured the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches, and added another victory in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 6 inches. AJ Kent also scored for the Cougars with a third-place finish in the 200 in 24.33.
