The Colville softball team played through a busy stretch of games last week, finishing with a split while piling up runs against quality competition.

The Colville boys soccer team opened the 2026 season with a pair of challenging matchups, showing effort and flashes of promise despite falling to Tonasket and Okanogan in nonleague play. 

The Crimson Hawks opened the stretch with a 5-1 win over Cheney on March 18. Colville tallied nine hits in the game, led by Fisher Hilderbrandt, who went 2-for-3, and Kyle Bradfield, who added two hits, a triple and two RBIs. Colton Hansen also drove in three runs to pace the offense. Jet Bateman had a double.

The Chewelah softball team showed resilience over the weekend, rebounding from a difficult loss to earn a pair of high-scoring wins in a doubleheader sweep of Omak.

The Crimson Hawks closed the stretch on a high note Friday, March 20, defeating Newport 3-2 behind a dominant showing in singles play.

The Northport boys track and field team turned in a competitive early-season performance at the VCS Jamboree on March 17, finishing tied for seventh place with 16 points in a tightly-contested field. The Northport girls track and field team tied for eighth place at the VCS Jamboree with 21 points behind a strong showing in the field events and jumps.

The Kettle Falls baseball team showed flashes of offensive firepower and resilience last week, earning a split across three games, highlighted by an 11-1 win over Tonasket.

The Chewelah Cougars showcased their offensive firepower and resilience Saturday, March 21, splitting a doubleheader with a dominant 16-10 win over Freeman before falling to Colville 5-0 later in the day.

The Chewelah Cougars tennis team this season has elite experience at the top of the lineup and a large group of newcomers learning the game. Their coaching staff is sporting familiar faces as well with Chewelah Mayor Lindsay Baxter stepping in as assistant coach.

“Going into the season, the expectations will be adaptability, focusing on prep work for the NEA league’s District Tournament in May,” Aubert said.

“Expectations are always high for Kettle Falls softball, and this year is no different,” Strobel said. “The team features a talented and energetic group with strong chemistry and leadership from our upperclassmen.”

Colville’s baseball team opened the 2026 season with plenty of offensive firepower, picking up a 10-run victory over Kettle Falls on Thursday, March 12, and splitting a pair of games over the weekend in Ephrata to sit at 2-1.

Colville racked up 12 hits and took advantage of seven Bulldog errors to build a lead before closing out the win.

Head Coach Monte Jones said the program’s main focus will be developing confidence and building a stronger team culture as the athletes gain experience throughout the spring.

The KIPS Gymnastics team out of Colville has been on the move the past several weeks, traveling from Florida to regional competitions in Idaho and Spokane – and bringing home state qualifications, team trophies, and a long list of podium finishes along the way.

Mace Thivierge scored a game-high 23 points, but the Bulldogs were eliminated by Reardan, 74-50, in a District 6 2B loser-out game at West Valley High School.

The Mat Classic brought all classifications and schools under the roof of the Tacoma Dome for a weekend of state championship wrestling Feb. 19-21. 
The event didn't disappoint, as a champion and several placers came from Stevens County schools. 

Darnold poured in a game-high 22 points on Feb. 17 to lift the Hawks to a 56-49 victory over Riverside in a NEA League loser-out game at West Valley High School.

Oakesdale (20-3) used a strong second quarter to seize control and secure a berth to the state tournament, while Inchelium closed its season with a 14-9 overall record (7-5 in league).

In the girls' matchup, Chewelah (2-21 overall, 0-13 Northeast 2B North) fell to St. George’s 60-19. The Dragons used a fast start to seize control, building a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 30-8 by halftime.

It was a tale of two games for the Kettle Falls boys basketball team in District 6 2B action at West Valley High School.

The Northport Mustangs battled through the Northeast 1B tournament last week, earning a win over Chesterton Academy before falling to Inchelium in the third-place game Saturday, Feb. 14, at Deer Park High School.

Wrestlers from Kettle Falls and Chewelah punched their tickets to the Mat Classic in Tacoma with strong performances at the WIAA District 6 1B/2B Tournament at Freeman High School.
