Springdale football found plenty of offense Friday, Oct. 2; unfortunately for the Chargers, Cusick found even more. Springdale fell 86-50 to the Panthers in one of the highest-scoring games of the season, dropping Springdale to 2-3. Despite the loss, the Chargers piled up 334 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, with several players turning in explosive performances.
Junior Jonas Dean led the way with 165 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns, averaging 15 yards per attempt. Freshman Zach Gilman was just as dangerous, rushing 10 times for 127 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Marc Andrew added 46 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Together, Dean and Gilman accounted for 292 of Springdale’s 334 rushing yards and six of its seven rushing scores. The Chargers did little through the air, completing two of three passes for nine yards, but they did not need much of a passing game to generate points.
Springdale averaged 10.4 yards per carry as a team. Dean also contributed on defense, finishing with six total tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack. He added two pass breakups. Freshman Will Koontz led Springdale with seven tackles and also came away with an interception. Junior Trystyn Pinyan finished with seven tackles, while Dean had six, and Andrew added five. Freshman Cable Turner recorded three tackles, including one for loss. Senior Bradyn Payne also had a tackle for loss.
