The Woodland Theatre, built in Kettle Falls in 1940, is the main performance site for Woodland Productions, a nonprofit community of local performing artists. Thanks to donations from grants, Friends of Woodland Theatre, and other major donors, the theatre now has the funds needed to complete upgrades. 

Glaze It Up Pottery is the new Colville-based pottery painting business that brings ceramics to their customers. “I pull up, I set up, and I bring the pottery, the glaze (paint), the paint brushes, and the paint pallets,” said Glaze It Up Pottery owner Heather Fryer. “I even bring the garbage bags to haul away the trash.

Goodwill of Colville is scheduled to open at its new location on Friday, Nov. 21. Located at the site of the now-closed Clark’s All Sports, the new space will host both the Goodwill Industries retail store as well as Goodwill Workforce and Family Services. “We are so excited – we will be able to provide another option for the community to eat and enjoy our food,” said Peck. Peck’s inspiration for cooking comes from her mother, she said, who raised her as a single parent in Thailand by selling food on the street each morning.

Karen Wisner, owner of A Kut Above hair salon, has moved locations and continues to style hair and provide mani-pedis after 38 years in the industry. “I started at my new location the first week of October,” said Wisner. “I needed a change, less stress in my life. A Kut Above is my name, so I took that with me and left everything else for the other girls.”

Opening to the public for a soft opening on Nov. 1, new bookstore Seekers Bookshop has been a dream in the making for more than two years. 
“We bought this space when it came up for sale two years ago,” said Lisa Wilson, who owns the bookshop with her husband, Buddy. “The building had lots of potential, and we just had to purchase it.”

A Colville beauty salon has re-opened under a new name, Bare Beauty, and with new owners, Kendra Lynds and Morgan Schultz, as of Oct. 1. “This was an unexpected opportunity,” said Lynds. “I was a nail tech at A Kut Above,” said Lynds. “I’ve been licensed for six-and-a-half years, and have worked at this location the whole time I’ve done nails.”

After more than a decade of planning and three years of dedicated construction, the Colville Elks Lodge #1753 celebrated the official opening of their brand-new, 10-space RV Park on Aug. 19. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the completion of a project that brings new accommodation options to Colville.

After sitting vacant since 2017, the Barman’s building is about to reopen as Barman’s Gift and Home. Barman’s was originally established in 1887 by David Barman as a department store 115 years ago.

Operation Santa of Kettle Falls is expanding outside of the holiday season. The same outfitter that has been helping families in need, since Judy Davis founded it in1982, is broadening with a new initiative: Nana’s Closet.

A new child care center is about to open its doors in Colville: Jungle Kids is owned and operated by Penny Pittman, who has been involved in the child and day care business for 30 years.

The Feed & Frippery in Kettle Falls is much more than meets the eye; it’s a one stop shop for hay, bait, small batch sourdough, locally sourced coffee, cleaning supplies, handmade jewelry, and much more.

The Northeast Washington (NEW) Hunger Coalition will be awarded the Fresh Results Award for their Grow Your Own Row program on Friday, July 11. The nonprofit organization that serves food pantries and community partners in Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Oreille counties, is focused on advocacy and education for food pantry efforts as well as building emergency food systems in rural areas.
