Boating and Powersport Business for Sale in Colville

Clark’s Marine and Powersports, located at 192 Degrief Rd. in Colville, has provided recreational boats and vehicles to the area since 2012. Owned by Ray and Julie Clark and managed by son-in-law Jim Martin, the business sells Hewescraft, fishing, and G3 pontoon boats, along with Yama- ha outboards, Arctic Cat snowmobiles, side-by-sides, 4-wheelers, and more, plus servicing. That will come to an end, though, because the Clarks are selling their business.

Martin has been running Clark’s Marine and Power- sports since 2014. “I am the person here,” said Martin. “I work more than 60 hours a week and do everything. I’m not young anymore. Ray had Clark’s All-Sports for 47 years before selling. He is 80 years old now. Even though he is still the owner, he doesn’t participate as much in the business.” Martin said he feels that it is time for him to move on too. “I don’t want to fully retire, but I have a small- er property management business that I would like to keep and put in 20 hours a week.

I also own recreational equipment and want to be able to play. I work a lot of hours, and I have taken this business on as an accomplishment.” He also said he wants to enjoy life outside of work. “We (Martin and his wife, Jeni) have four kids, and none of them are interested in this business. I think about John Monette, who is the man that Clark purchased this business from in 2012. John retired and then passed away less than two years later.” Clark’s Marine and Powersports is listed for sale, and has been on the market for three months. Martin said, “We’ve had a couple of people interested. The business is listed at $2.6 million without inventory. I don’t have a deadline to sell by. Two of the inquiries asked if I would be willing to stay on for six months in order to assist with the transition, and I said ‘yes.’”

The business includes 35 self-storage units in back of the property that are part of the sale, according to Martin. The staff at Clark’s Marine and Powersports includes three mechanics, one salesperson, two parts people, and Martin. “I’m the jack-of-all-trades,” he said. “I hope that someone will buy this, take my place, and keep things exactly the same. We have a great crew, and we all get along. The best case scenario is that nothing will change after the business sells. There is a possibility of improvement, too. There is a huge demand for mobile mechanics. Everybody has a little question about what might happen regarding the new owners.” Martin added, “We need the service provided by Clark’s Marine and Powersports in our community. There is no other business like it. We have a customer base of 950. We service 200 boats a year, easy. We are so busy that we are four to six weeks out.” Martin is hopeful that the right buyer will come along.
