A new, student-designed mural is adding color to the west end of Heritage Court in downtown Colville.

Seekers Bookshop, located at 270 S. Main Street in Colville, was visited by three area authors on Saturday, June 13. The bookshop hosted an event for Carmen Peone, Sherry Karuza Waldrip, and Kathy Keppel-Colkitt, who provided on-sight commentary for their published books.

Kettle Falls High School music students are wrapping up the school year with festival awards, state-level choir selections, and a growing jazz program.

Washington State Poet Laureate Derek Sheffield is scheduled to speak at the Chewelah Library Friday, May 8 at 6 p.m.

“The innate need to create is a jealous, persistent, and even nagging companion,” Linda Hyatt Cancel said in her latest work, a memoir entitled “1959 Lark.” A departure from her normal creative work of painting with a brush, Cancel said she employs her words to illustrate the seasons of her life.

April’s Spring Blooms and Buzzing Pollinators art installation in Chewelah isn’t just a garden variety encounter with flowers and butterflies.

The Rotary Club of Colville hosted their annual Irish Hooley fundraiser on March 21 at the Spokane Community College, Colville Campus where approximately 200 people attended.

The Colville Home and Garden show, put on by the Colville Chamber of Commerce and held Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 at the Spokane Community College, Colville Campus, was packed with area vendors offering free samples, demonstrations, door prizes and more to a steady stream of attendees.

Sonja Metzler wasn’t always a sculptor, but she’s always been an artist. A Colville area resident since 1998, Metzler said her artistic journey began with art school in her childhood home of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Chewelah resident Rob McGlinton describes his music as a fusion of classic jazz with a pop twist. He said the muted trumpet, subtle bass, and the smooth swing of the piano wrap around lyrics written from “an often unreliable” narrator’s commentary on the human condition.

“It tells the story in time,” American Legion member Dennis MacDonald said when discussing the final painting day of the mural on the west wall of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 54 in Chewelah. This wall faces Highway 395 and is located at 111 S. Park Street near Main Street. MacDonald added that the mural is designed to honor veterans.

The Stevens County Historical Society unveiled their new mural, painted by Northport artist Jami Rose Lord, at the Stevens County Historical Society museum, 700 N. Wynn St. in Colville, during a celebration on Aug. 9, which included free admission and refreshments for the over 100 attendees.
