The Stevens County Historical Society unveiled their new mural, painted by Northport artist Jami Rose Lord, at the Stevens County Historical Society museum, 700 N. Wynn St. in Colville, during a celebration on Aug. 9, which included free admission and refreshments for the over 100 attendees. The unveiling was preceded by a speech given by Lord about her experience creating the mural and the history behind it. The mural, spanning a total of nine wooden panels measuring a total of12 feet by 24 feet, was based on an original black and white photograph taken by Alma Richardson in approximately 1929, and was transformed by Lord into a colorful painting in just over two months. The original photograph hangs in the front hall of the Stevens County Historical Society today and is referenced in presentations and tours, highlighting the significance of the mural for the museum. This mural represents local culture and history, as well as the personal significance for the Historical Society, according to Lord and to Don Birch, president of the Stevens County Historical Society.
