

Springdale Falls to Odessa Despite Backfield Defense

Springdale football’s defense was in Odessa’s backfield consistently Saturday, Sept. 26, but fell 38-8, dropping their season record to 2-2. The Chargers finished with 146 total yards, including 116 on the ground and 30 through the air. Freshman quarterback Nolan Swearngin passed for 30 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
He hit sophomore Mikel Ford for a 30-yard touchdown pass. On the ground, freshman Will Koontz led Springdale with 56 yards on eight carries, averaging seven yards per attempt. Freshman Zach Gilman added 34 yards on eight carries, while junior Jonas Dean finished with 17 yards on 11 attempts. Springdale’s defense spent much of the night under pressure but still produced several strong individual performances.
Koontz led the Chargers with 11 total tackles, including eight solo stops. Senior Tyson Kane recorded 10 tackles and five tackles for loss, while junior Trystyn Pinyan added nine tackles and four tackles for loss. Gilman finished with six tackles and one tackle for loss.
Dean and senior Marc Andrew each recorded five tackles, while senior Bradyn Payne had four tackles and two tackles for loss. Springdale finished with 14 tackles for loss as a team.
