

Kettle Falls Splits League Matches

Kettle Falls volleyball split a pair of Northeast 2B North matches last week, earning a five-set road victory over Chewelah before falling at home to St. George’s in straight sets. The Bulldogs opened the week Sept. 22 with a 3-2 win over Chewelah, taking the match 25-8, 23-25, 24-26, 25-13, and 15- 12. Kettle Falls came out quickly, dominating the opening set before Chewelah responded by taking the next two. Facing a 2-1 deficit, the Bulldogs answered with a strong fourth set to force a deciding fifth, then closed out the match with a threepoint win.
Kettle Falls finished with a balanced attack in the victory. Cambri Thivierge and Wyn Edwards each recorded six kills, while Thivierge handed out 12 assists. Heira Palumbo led the Bulldogs from the service line with 11 aces. Edwards added five digs, and Kendall Nissen finished with six blocks. Chewelah was led offensively by Bella Klemish, who finished with 10 kills. Lillianna Cavazos handed out 13 assists and added two aces, while Kayla Davis recorded three aces. Savannah Acosta led the back row with 19 digs.
Two days later, Kettle Falls returned home to face St. George’s but could not carry the momentum into another win. The Dragons swept the Bulldogs 25-18, 25-23, and 25-17 on Sept. 24. Kettle Falls kept the second set close, but St. George’s closed it out by two points before pulling away again in the third. Thivierge finished with 10 assists against the Dragons, while Edwards recorded 14 digs. Thivierge and Palumbo each had four kills, and Nissen and Edwards finished with three blocks apiece.
On the same evening, the Cougars traveled to Newport and were unable to generate the same resistance in a 3-0 loss to the Grizzlies. Newport won the match 25-7, 25-12, and 25-5. Chewelah received two kills from Emma Marshall and Lillianna Cavazos, while Harper Church finished with six assists. Acosta again led the defense with nine digs, and Marshall recorded three blocks.
Mustang Volleyball Continues Strong Start with Wins Over Cusick, Colville
Northport volleyball continued to be a potent volleyball team in northern Stevens County as it picked up victories over Cusick and Colville. Northport opened the stretch Sept. 22 with a straight-set Northeast 1B North win over Cusick, 25-10, 25-12, and 25-23. The Mustangs controlled the first two sets before Cusick made the third more competitive, but Northport closed out the sweep to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Kate Beardslee led Northport with 16 kills and nine digs. Brooklyn Wilson finished with 13 assists, Liesel Stark recorded four aces, and Beardslee added two blocks. Northport then followed with a fiveset nonleague victory over 1A Colville on Sept. 24, edging the Crimson Hawks 3-2. The two teams also played a five-set thriller earlier in the season. Colville took the opening set 27-25, but Northport responded with a 25-16 win in the second. Colville regained the advantage by taking the third 25-23, only for Northport to force a deciding fifth set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth. The Mustangs completed the comeback by winning the fifth set 15-13.
Colville’s Andrea Edwards directed the offense with 25 assists, while Georgia Beardslee led the Crimson Hawks with 11 kills. Katie Roy contributed eight aces and 14 digs, and Aubree Kubesh finished with four blocks. Northport received a strong all-around performance from Kate Beardslee, who finished with 19 kills and two blocks. Wilson recorded 22 assists, while Stark added five aces and 19 digs.
Springdale Stays Perfect With Sweep of Odessa
The Springdale volleyball team kept its unbeaten season rolling with another convincing sweep, defeating Odessa on Sept. 24 in straight sets to improve to 11-0. The Chargers controlled the match from the start, winning 25-9, 25-19, and 25-11. Springdale produced a balanced offensive effort with 34 kills as a team while also serving 13 aces and finishing with 41 digs.
Senior Kaylin Gines led the attack with 10 kills on 15 attempts, hitting .533. She also contributed two aces, 13 digs, and two block assists. Senior Kazlin Rainer added seven kills and three aces, while senior Ashlynn-Mae Ford finished with six kills and 10 assists. Sophomore McKinley Schroeder contributed five kills and three aces. Senior Trinity Farnsworth added five kills and six digs. Sophomore Kamryn Cloninger directed much of the Springdale offense, finishing with a team-high of 22 assists to go along with three aces and four digs.
The Chargers were especially effective from the service line. Cloninger, Rainer, and Schroeder each had three aces, while Gines and sophomore Scarlett Miller added two apiece. Defensively, Gines’ 13 digs led the team. Junior Emily Small added seven digs, while Farnsworth collected six. Two days earlier, Springdale swept previously unbeaten Valley Christian 3-0 to improve to 10-0 on the season by scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-20. Gines led Springdale at the net with 16 kills while also recording 14 digs and two aces.
Rainer added seven kills and five aces. Cloninger directed the offense with 18 assists and six digs, while Ford added 10 assists and six digs. Small contributed 12 digs defensively.
