The Kettle Falls Bulldogs volleyball team picked up a convincing league victory over Chewelah before falling to St. George’s in a pair of matches last week. The Bulldogs opened the week with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Chewelah on Oct. 15, before traveling to St. George’s on Oct. 17, where they suffered a threeset defeat. Kettle Falls finished the two-match stretch with a 5-8 overall record and a 2-7 mark in conference play. Against Chewelah, the Bulldogs controlled the match from the opening set, posting a 25-12, 25-15, and 25-21 victory. Heira Palumbo delivered a strong all-around performance for Kettle Falls, finishing with a team-high of eight kills and 11 digs to lead the offensive attack and provide stability defensively. Cambria Thiverge directed the Bulldogs’ offense with 11 assists, helping Kettle Falls maintain a productive attack throughout the match.

At the net, Wyn Edwards provided a defensive presence with four blocks, helping limit Chewelah’s opportunities. The Bulldogs established control early, winning the opening set by 13 points before taking the second by 10. Chewelah put up a stronger fight in the third, but Kettle Falls held on to complete the sweep. Savannah Acosta led Chewelah with five kills, while Harper Church recorded six assists. Bella Turner added three service aces, Lillianna Cavazos finished with 13 digs, and Emma Marshall contributed three blocks. The victory provided Kettle Falls with an important conference win as the Bulldogs continued working through their NE2B North schedule. Two days later, Kettle Falls faced a tougher challenge on the road against St. George’s. The Dragons swept the Bulldogs 25- 13, 25-21, and 25-22, although Kettle Falls became increasingly competitive as the match progressed.

After dropping the opening set by 12 points, the Bulldogs narrowed the margin to four points in the second and pushed St. George’s in a tightly contested third set. Frances Kelly led Kettle Falls offensively with five kills, while Thiverge added two assists. Natalee Corvino contributed three service aces, giving the Bulldogs a boost from the service line. Edwards again made an impact defensively, recording 10 digs and two blocks to lead Kettle Falls.
