

Chewelah Boys, Kettle Falls Girls Place Third at League Meet

Chewelah and Kettle Falls track athletes turned in several top-three finishes on April 22 during the NE2B League Meet No. 2 at Snyder Field in Chewelah. For team scoring, the Chewelah boys placed third, while the Kettle Falls girls team did the same.
Chewelah’s boys were led by Justice Whittekiend and Emmitt Warren VIII in the distance races. Whittekiend won the 800 meters in 1 minute, 59.82 seconds, while Warren won the 1,600 in 4:32.21. Kyle Foster added a fifth-place finish in the 1,600 in 5:09.89 and was fifth in the 3,200 in 11:06.60.
Meirahn Waford-Nimmons placed third in the boys 110 hurdles in 17.93 seconds and second in the 300 hurdles in 47.05. Chewelah’s 4x100 relay team of Kaedon Mendez, Deon Richardson, Josh Kassa, and Titan Tapia placed second in 50.62, while the 4x400 team of Francis Sety, Waford-Nimmons, Richardson, and Whittekiend was second in 3:42.21.
In the boys field events, Kettle Falls’ Owen Rosenthal placed third in the shot put at 38 feet, 3 inches, and won the javelin with a throw of 147 feet, 10 inches. Chewelah’s AJ Kent placed second in the pole vault at 12 feet and fourth in the shot put at 37 feet, 11.5 inches. Sety won the triple jump for Chewelah with a personal-best mark of 40 feet, 6.5 inches, while Kettle Falls’ Mason Reeves was fourth in the triple jump at 36 feet, 5 inches and fourth in the long jump at 16 feet, 7 inches.
On the girls side, Chewelah’s Rin Parsons had a strong day in the sprints. Parsons placed second in the 100 meters in 13.30 seconds and won the 200 in 27.57. Kettle Falls’ Audrey Esvelt finished second in the 200 in 28.81, while Chewelah’s Liberty Whittekiend was third in 28.82.
Chewelah also picked up a win from Josie Carter, who took first in the 800 in 2:38.64. Elise Warren placed fifth in the 800 in 2:45.95, and Diana Durhum was seventh in 2:52.71. In the 4x400 relay, Whittekiend, Carter, Mei Parsons, and Rin Parsons won in 4:28.23.
Kettle Falls won the girls 4x100 relay, with Isabella Tiwebemal, Avery Tobias, Wyn Edwards, and Esvelt finishing in 55.06. The same group placed second in the 4x200 relay in 1:56.10.
In hurdles, Tobias placed second in the 100 hurdles in 18.86. She also added a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 13 feet, 10 inches.
Kettle Falls had several top-three finishes in the throws. Grace Glaim placed second in the shot put at 23 feet, 3 inches, while teammate Thornton Avery was third at 22 feet, 10.5 inches. Avery then won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 89 feet, 2 inches.
Chewelah’s Anna Whittekiend placed first in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 6-6 and fourth in the javelin at 73 feet, 2 inches. Liberty Whittekiend placed third in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 16 feet, 4 inches, and fifth in the triple jump at 31 feet, 2 inches.
Kettle Falls’ Edwards rounded out the local top-three finishers, placing third in the triple jump at 31 feet, 10 inches.
