

Chewelah Splits Saturday Slate, Erupts for 16 Runs in Win Over Freeman

Cougars unleash 16-hit offensive outburst in win before running into strong pitching in split doubleheader.
The Chewelah Cougars showcased their offensive firepower and resilience Saturday, March 21, splitting a doubleheader with a dominant 16-10 win over Freeman before falling to Colville 5-0 later in the day.
In the opener, the Cougars’ bats came alive in a big way, piling up 16 runs on 16 hits in a back-and-forth battle to victory over Freeman.
Chewelah jumped out early with a run in the first and took control with four runs in the third inning. Six runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth put them ahead for good in the contest against the Scotties.
Patrick McGuire led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Grady Skok added a strong all-around performance, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and earning the win on the mound after pitching five innings.
Dakota Katzer delivered one of the biggest swings of the game, blasting a home run, and finishing 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Gus Schatz also contributed at the plate, collecting three hits and driving in three runs. Ethan Johnson added two hits and two RBIs as Chewelah’s lineup produced, from top to bottom.
In the second game of the day, Chewelah ran into a strong Colville pitching performance in a 5-0 loss.
The Cougars managed just one hit in the contest, a single from McGuire, as Colville pitcher Kyle Bradfield controlled the game throughout.
