Colville’s Baseball Season Ends With State Loss to Rochester

Colville’s baseball team found themselves in a tight pitching battle Saturday, May 23, at Whitworth University, but the Crimson Hawks fell 6-0 to Rochester in the opening round of the State 1A playoffs. The Hawks were held to four hits by Rochester pitcher Tayden Martin, who threw a complete-game shutout. Martin struck out six, walked one, and allowed no runs. Colville had early chances to break through. Kyle Brad- field singled in the first inning and stole second, but the Hawks could not bring him home. Colton Hansen was hit by a pitch in the second, and Jet Bateman singled in the third before he was caught stealing. Zack Bateman added singles in the fifth and seventh innings. Rochester broke open a scoreless game in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead and then added an insurance run in the seventh. Bradfield started on the mound for Colville and worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits. He struck out six and walked three. Hansen pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout. Zack Bateman led Colville at the plate, going 2-for-3. Jet Bateman and Bradfield each added a hit. Colville finished the season 17-8.
