The Colville baseball team has had a strong start to the spring season, sitting at 5-2 overall after an 8-4 loss to the visiting 3A University Titans on Saturday, March 28. Despite the setback, the Hawks showed they could compete with the Greater Spokane League school before a late push by the Titans created separation.
Colville finished with four runs on four hits. Kyle Bradfield led the way offensively with a two-RBI performance, while Fischer Hilderbrandt also drove in a run. Luke Bateman provided the Hawks’ lone extra-base hit with a double. Colville also stayed active on the bases, with Jet Bateman swiping two bases as part of an aggressive approach.
The Hawks stayed within striking distance through the middle innings behind a solid outing on the mound from Bradfield. The right-hander worked 5 2/3 innings, striking out five while allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
However, the Titans found a breakthrough late, scoring three runs in the sixth inning. They finished with eight runs on nine hits.
Colton Hansen also saw time on the mound in relief, as Colville attempted to slow the late momentum. While the Hawks were unable to close the gap, the game provided another test early in the season against a capable opponent.
