

Colville City Council Discusses Upcoming Summer Activities

The Colville City Council met on April 28 to approve funding for the Farm Jam Summer Kickoff and Kettle Falls Town and Country Days. Key discussions also included progress on the city pool renovation, a decrease in sales tax revenue, and new support for a historical wildfire equipment building at Keller Heritage Park.

Community Events & Support The council approved $600 from the Vinson Fund for the Farm Jam Summer Kickoff (June 12) and $4,900 for Kettle Falls Town and Country Days to cover entertainment costs. Additionally, the council approved a classic car show on the grass at Colville City Park during the Yep Kanum celebration, provided organizers coordinate with public works to protect the grounds.
Historical & Infrastructure Projects Support was granted to the Stevens County Historical Society for a new building at Keller Heritage Park to house U.S. Forest Service wildfire equipment. In infrastructure, the city is moving forward with a $119,000 sewer master plan aided by Welch Comer & Associates. Public works also reported that the city pool renovation is ahead of schedule, ensuring a full summer season.
Finance & Public Safety Finance staff noted an 8% year-to-date decrease in retail sales tax revenue, though reporting errors are being investigated with the Department of Revenue. The police department highlighted a recent mock DUI simulation at Colville High School, designed to educate students on the consequences of impaired driving.
Policy Updates The council adopted the 2026 purchasing and procurement policy to align with updated state laws and higher purchasing thresholds, aiming to streamline city operations.
