

Cougar Softball Falls to Crusaders

Chewelah softball dropped three games to Northwest Christian last week, moving the Cougars to 4-9-1 on the season.
The Cougars opened the week with a 2-0 loss to Northwest Christian on April 21. The Crusaders scored both of their runs in the second inning and held Chewelah to one hit, by Nicole Turner.
Bella Turner pitched all three innings for the Cougars, allowing two runs, both unearned, on four hits while striking out four and walking none.
Chewelah’s offense found more hits Saturday, April 25, but Northwest Christian took control early in an 18-1 win in the first game of a doubleheader. The Crusaders scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second, five in the third, and six in the fourth.
Nicole Turner led Chewelah at the plate, going 2-for-3. Charlie Fuller and Savannah Acosta each added a hit, and Isabella Turner drove in Chewelah’s run. Fuller also scored the Cougars’ lone run.
Northwest Christian completed the sweep with a 27-7 win in the second game Saturday.
Chewelah scored two runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth. The Crusaders answered with 10 runs in the first and 12 more in the second to build a large early lead.
Nicole Turner again led the Cougars’ offense, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Savannah Acosta added a hit and an RBI, while Bella Turner and Tarynn Carlson each had a hit.
The Cougars finished with five hits in the loss.
