Cougars Shut Out Newport, Advance To District Semifinals

Chewelah finished with eight hits and committed one error. Patrick McGuire helped set the tone from the leadoff spot, drawing three walks, scoring twice, and stealing three bases.

Ryen McMillin threw a no-hitter and helped lead Chewelah at the plate as the Cougars baseball team eliminated Newport 10-0 in six innings Thursday, May 7, in a District 6 2B quarterfinal baseball game. Chewelah improved to 16-5 overall and is scheduled to face Asotin in a District 6 2B semifinal at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Washington State University. The Cougars are 12-3 in league play. McMillin finished with two hits and two runs scored, while also shutting down the Grizzlies on the mound. He pitched all six innings, allowing no runs and no hits, while striking out 12 and walking three. The Cougars took control early with five runs in the first inning, then added three more in the fourth, and one in the sixth to end the game by the 10-run rule.
