

Cougars Softball Bounces Back with Doubleheader Sweep After Tough Opener

The Chewelah softball team showed resilience over the weekend, rebounding from a difficult loss to earn a pair of high-scoring wins in a doubleheader sweep of Omak.
The Cougars opened the season on March 19 with a tough 18-0 loss to Lakeside, where they were held to just one hit. Nicole Turner accounted for Chewelah’s lone base knock, while the Cougars struggled to slow a potent Lakeside lineup that finished with 17 hits.
Chewelah quickly turned the page Saturday, March 20, erupting offensively in a 15-14 win over Omak in the first game of a doubleheader. The Cougars pounded out 12 hits and capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the lineup.
Savannah Acosta led the charge, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Turner added a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles and three RBIs, while Isabella Turner scored three runs and drove in another.
Charlie Fuller contributed with a hit and an RBIs, and Jorja Floyd added a hit and drove in three runs as Chewelah held off a late push from Omak.
The Cougars carried that momentum into the second game, earning a 13-10 victory behind another strong offensive showing. Chewelah tallied 17 hits, led by Nicole Turner’s big day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.
Faith Knight continued her standout performance, finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Acosta added two runs and a hit, while Isabella Turner drove in two runs off three hits. Kierra Marshall chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Maddie Autrey went the distance in the circle in the second game, pitching all seven innings while working through traffic and striking out five to secure the win.
