The Chewelah Cougars softball team battled through a busy stretch of games against Davenport last week, splitting a pair of contests and showing offensive firepower despite a narrow loss in the finale.
Chewelah dropped its March 31 matchup 6-2, despite outhitting Davenport 9-8. Savannah Acosta led the Cougars with two hits and an RBI, while Nicole Turner added a pair of hits, including a double. Turner pitched a complete game, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out five.
The Cougars bounced back in a big way on April 3 with a 14-5 win over Davenport. Chewelah erupted for 14 runs on 12 hits, highlighted by Maddie Autrey's three-hit, four-RBI performance that included a double. Kierra Marshall had three-hits as well, driving in three runs.
Isabella Turner contributed a hit and two RBIs. Alaina Erickson scored twice and added a hit, while Savannah Acosta, Charlie Fuller, and Jorja Floyd each collected hits in the win. Turner earned the victory in the circle, going the distance and allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out 11.
Later that day, the Cougars came up just short in a high-scoring 16-15 loss to Davenport. Chewelah tallied 12 hits and 15 runs, led by Fuller's three-hit, five RBI performance. Floyd had two hits and three RBI, as did Isabella Turner.
The Cougars used multiple pitchers in the contest but were unable to hold off Davenport’s nine-run inning in the fourth.
With the split, Chewelah moves to 4-4 on the season.
