CRIMSON HAWKS SOAR TO PODIUM

Colville's Darnell Ah Loo led Colville with a runner-up finish in the boys triple jump at the State 1A Track and Field championships. Ah Loo, a sophomore, jumped a personal-best 44 feet, 2 inches to place second behind South Whidbey’s Bryson Taylor, who won the event at 46 feet, 8.25 inches. Ah Loo also placed seventh in the boys long jump with another personal-best mark of 21 feet, 2 inches, giving Colville points in both horizontal jumps. The Crimson Hawks had a strong showing in the boys triple jump, with three athletes finishing in the top 11. Senior Bodie Nigg placed eighth at 41 feet, 3.50 inches, while senior Isaiah Ortiz finished 11th at 40 feet, 10.5 inches. Colville senior Gabe Harper added another top-eight finish in the boys pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 6 inches to place eighth. Bellevue Christian’s Rondo Mason won the state title at 14 feet, 3 inches. In the distance races, junior Malik Ortiz turned in two season-best performances. Ortiz placed eighth in the boys 3,200 meters in 9 minutes, 50.74 seconds, earning a podium finish in one of the meet’s deepest distance fields. He also finished 11th in the 1,600 in 4:30.16. On the girls side, senior Andee Kroiss placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 1 inch, and 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 6.5 inches. Colville’s Unified team turned in a standout performance at the State 1A Track and Field championships, finishing second overall out of 21 teams in the Inclusive Division. Unified athlete Asher Nigg and partner Landon Timmering captured a state championship in the Unified 100-meter dash, while Nigg also teamed with Tilly Longopoa to place sixth in the Unified shot put. Colville added another state title in the Unified 4x100 relay, which crossed the finish line in 57.14 seconds to bring home gold. The team also defended its title, earning back-to-back state championships and helping cap a championship weekend for the Crimson Hawks.
