Crimson hawks lean on senior leadership, newcomers, speed, and versatility.

Reloading looks different for programs like Colville. The Crimson Hawks softball team has some experienced seniors that will help bring along a wave of players stepping into new roles, but overall the expectation is still to challenge for a Northeast A League title.

Head Coach Lauren Knight said one of the primary goals early on will be developing chemistry across a roster with new faces.

“Expectations going into this season are to find team fluidity as we have a lot of girls stepping into new or starting positions; and to compete well within our league, finishing on the top end,” Knight said.

Colville’s varsity roster includes five seniors, four juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. While numbers are slightly down compared to past seasons, Knight said she likes the makeup of the group.

“We were a little light in numbers this year but have a good group of girls eager to play,” she said.

The Crimson Hawks will lean on senior leadership, particularly from Ayven McCurdy and Kolee Titmus. McCurdy is expected to anchor the offense, while Titmus provides stability both in the circle and in the middle infield.

“Ayven McCurdy is one of our returning seniors who should be a consistent, big bat for us,” Knight said. “Kolee Titmus is another returning senior who is a defensive asset, both pitching and playing middle infield.”

Colville’s identity this season will center around athleticism and adaptability. Knight pointed to team speed and defensive flexibility as key strengths that could give the Hawks an edge.

“Our team’s strengths will be our speed and baserunning, as well as our versatility on defense,” she said. “I have a lot of girls that can play multiple positions and that will serve us well.”

The Northeast A League once again figures to be competitive, with Lakeside and Riverside expected to contend. Still, Knight said she believes her team has the tools to be in the mix.

“Our league is always pretty competitive and Lakeside and Riverside will be strong opponents,” she said.

Colville faces the added challenge of replacing a large senior class from a year ago, having graduated seven starters. Despite the turnover, Knight voiced confidence in the group’s mindset and work ethic.

“We had a lot of spots to fill coming into this season,” she said. “That can sometimes be a daunting challenge but I have full faith in these girls and their ability to rise to the challenge. They know how to work hard and how to have fun.”
