Digital Payments Now Accepted at National Forests in Washington State

The U.S. Forest Service announced on June 30 that Washington’s national forests are expanding digital payment options at recreation sites, including the Colville National Forest. Visitors can now pay fees using the Recreation.gov mobile app at certain trailheads, day-use areas, and campgrounds across the state.

Officials said digital payments reduce cash-handling and vandalism, allowing Forest Service staff to spend more time maintaining recreation facilities and assisting visitors. Visitors can scan a QR code on-site and pay instantly, even without cell service, as long as the app is downloaded and set up in advance, according to Forest Service staff.

Once the site is paid for, visitors should display the confirmation code at the vehicle or campsite. Other cashless forests include the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Olympic National Forest, Gifford-Pinchot National Forest, and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Some sites operated by concessionaires may not accept digital payment or passes.
