Chewelah’s softball team battled through a wild three-game stretch against Reardan last week, showing offensive firepower despite going 0-2-1 in the series to move to 4-6-1 on the year.
Chewelah opened the week with a 29-10 loss to Reardan on April 14 in a game that quickly turned into an offensive shootout. The Cougars collected 11 hits; Charlie Fuller led the way with three hits and four RBIs, while Emma Davis added two hits and two RBIs. Savannah Acosta finished with two hits and an RBI, and Jorja Floyd also drove in a run. Chewelah put together extra-base hits from Fuller, Davis, and Acosta, but Reardan’s lineup answered with 12 hits and took advantage of 26 walks.
The Cougars were back on the field April 17, and dropped the opener of a doubleheader, 15-8, despite a huge game from Nicole Turner. Turner blasted two home runs, including a grand slam and drove in six runs, accounting for much of Chewelah’s offense. Isabella Turner added two hits and a double. Reardan, however, scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take control.
Chewelah nearly broke through for a win in the second game, settling for a 17-17 tie in a back-and-forth slugfest. The Cougars pounded out 14 hits and got big performances throughout the lineup. Isabella Turner had a monster game, going 4-for-4 with six RBIs, a double, and a triple, while Fuller collected three hits and drove in two runs to go along with two doubles.
Nicole Turner went 3-for-3, a double and an RBI while Jorja Floyd added two hits and three RBIs, and Maddie Autrey scored four runs
