Soccer Field Dedicated to Retiring Head Coach Dave Rarrick As Crimson Hawks Thump Griz.

Senior night is typically dedicated solely to seniors, but after Colville’s 4-2 league win over Newport last Thursday, there was something else in the mix.

After the Colville seniors were honored by the fans, family, and coaches at the football field, long-time Colville Coach Dave Rarrick was addressed by assistant coaches Daniel Torres and Chris Benson, who revealed that the Colville soccer field would be renamed Rarrick Field.

Rarrick has been a coach for the soccer program for 29 years and will be retiring at the end of this year. His son, Trent Rarrick, notched a hat trick in the first half against the Grizzlies in a key league win.

“It was Dave’s senior year in high school that he was positioning to get a soccer team program going,” Torres said. “And unfortunately it happened the year after he graduated, but it literally all started with Dave.”

Fans were adorned with “Rarrick Field” t-shirts and a sign for the field was unveiled for Dave.

“He was always running these soccer camps that we would go to every year,” Benson said. “I know a lot of you guys have been to them, too. There was just so much time on the field, and so much done for the community, and he does it all with humility, and never asks for anything in return.”

Rarrick was able to enjoy the moment with his son and family during an important league game against Newport. Trent Rarrick peppered the Griz goal with numerous shots and had a hat trick with three goals before halftime. Jeff Sears notched Colville’s second goal in the second half for the 4-2 victory. In all, the Crimson Hawks finished with 26 shots on goal and one yellow card by Kayson Dupuis, who weirdly enough got the card for jostling for position. The Newport player who then proceeded to perform a “fingerpoke of doom” on Dupuis' forehead, pushing him away after the whistle, did not receive a card.

Colville’s attack still remained aggressive and the Crimson Hawks were able to weather a goal by the Grizzlies in the first half and another after the break. Newport managed just three shots on goal. Colville improved to 7-6 on the season and has the fourth seed in league play.

Regardless of the on-field action, the off-field action was equally spellbinding and coach Dave Rarrick was treated to an after-game reception and a legacy that will last far beyond the postseason.

“We all thought it was time to give the field out there a fitting name,” Benson said.
