Community support is helping the Kettle Falls track and field and cross-country programs add new equipment for student-athletes. Head Coach Monty Jones said this year’s fun run, along with donations and entry fees, brought in more support than expected, allowing the program to purchase items that will be used by both teams. “Words cannot express the joy and gratitude I feel for the support given to my Kettle Falls Track and Field and Cross-Country teams,” Jones wrote in a social media post. The new equipment includes a large digital timer, stopwatches, resistance training gear, practice hurdles, throwing implements, banners, and signs. Jones said the purchases give the Kettle Falls program more tools for daily practices, timing workouts, developing speed and strength, and preparing athletes for competition. Practice hurdles and throwing implements will help athletes work on event-specific skills, while the digital timer and stopwatches will give coaches and athletes more accurate ways to track progress. “Because of your generosity, I was able to purchase equipment and items that will help both teams become bigger, faster, and stronger,” Jones wrote. The banners and signs will also help add visibility and identity to the program. Jones credited the success of the effort to the wider Kettle Falls track and cross-country community, including former athletes, families, friends, and supporters. “I cannot thank the Hall of Fame track brothers, friends, families, and everyone who donated enough for believing in our athletes,” Jones wrote.
