

Kettle Falls Tennis Drops Tennis Matches Against Freeman and Chewelah

The Kettle Falls tennis teams faced a pair of challenging matchups this week, competing against Freeman and Chewelah.
Hosting Freeman on March 27, the Bulldogs ran into tough competition on the girls side. In singles play, Elsie Hume battled but fell 0-6, 2-6 against a high-level opponent, marking her second straight match against elite competition that included a two-time state runner-up and a member of a defending state championship doubles team. Thea Cruden also competed hard at No. 2 singles but came up short 1-6, 3-6. In doubles, Lily Van Dusen and Shelby Shurrum dropped their No. 1 match 2-6, 1-6, while Adison Jones and Ashlynn Comer fell 2-6, 2-6 at No. 2. Peyton Miller and Sierra Kolar lost their pro set 1-8, and Sytara Sillars and Karlee Shull were defeated 0-8.
The Kettle Falls boys found more success against Freeman, highlighted by strong doubles play. Kalel Mendoza picked up a 4-3 win in an abbreviated pro set at No. 1 singles. In doubles, Kincaid Freer and Mason Snider earned a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 comeback victory, while Deegan Craig and Baylor Rosen dominated their match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
Earlier in the week on March 25, Kettle Falls took on Chewelah, where the girls again faced a tough opponent. Hume fell 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 singles, while Cruden dropped a 4-6, 1-6 decision at No. 2. In doubles, Shurrum and Dusen provided a bright spot with an 8-1 pro set victory, while the remaining doubles teams came up short. On the boys side, Rosen fell 1-6, 0-6 in singles, and the doubles team of Freer and Craig dropped their match 0-6, 0-6.
