Kettle Falls Track Breaks The Ice At Valley Christian

Kettle Falls track and field athletes turned in a strong all-around performance Saturday, March 28, at the Icebreaker Relays, highlighted by several top-three finishes in the throwing events and solid contributions across sprints, distance and relays.

The Bulldogs were especially strong in the field events, with Owen Rosenthal capturing the javelin title with a winning throw of 151 feet, 9 inches, while also placing fourth in the shot put (39 feet).

Teammate Sam Lotze delivered a standout day as well, finishing second in the shot put (40 feet, 8 inches) and winning the discus with a throw of 117 feet, 1 inch. Josh Bair added a sixth-place finish in the javelin (118 feet, 6 inches), while Mason Reeves contributed across multiple events, placing fifth in the long jump (18 feet, 4 inches), eighth in the 400 meters (56.19), and 26th in the javelin (75 feet, 5 inches).

On the track, Kettle Falls saw competitive efforts from its younger athletes. Jaxson Henderson placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (48.90) and added a 12th-place finish in the long jump (15 feet, 8.5 inches), while the 4x100 throwers relay team of Henderson, Deaver Liam, Rosenthal, and Reeves placed third (50.13).

In distance events, the Bulldogs’ 4x800 relay team of Troy Benwell, Bair, Charles Kelly, and Casen Corvino finished sixth (11:36.56), and Bair also placed 21st in the 1,500 meters (5:21.67). Additional efforts included Rosenthal taking 19th in the 200 meters (26.76).

For the girls, the Bulldogs’ relay teams led the way, with the 4x100 team of Annunzio Bella, Wyn Edwards, Patricia Heimbigner, and Isabella Tiwebemal placing fourth in 57.68 seconds, while the 4x200 relay squad of Tiwebemal, Avery Tobias, Edwards, and Audrey Esvelt finished third (2:00.65).

Kettle Falls also took second in the sprint medley relay, with Tiwebemal, Tobias, Edwards, and Esvelt combining for a time of 2:04.45. Individually, Edwards turned in one of the team’s top performances with a runner-up finish in the triple jump (32 feet, 11.5 inches), while Avery Tobias placed seventh in the long jump (14 feet, 3 inches) and 14th in the 100-meter hurdles (20.01).

In the sprints, Esvelt placed 12th in the 200 meters (29.52), with Julia Olson close behind in 16th (30.40), while Bella (16.35) and Grace Glaim (16.41) competed in the 100 meters. The Bulldogs also saw contributions in the field events, as Glaim placed 15th in the shot put (23 feet, 3.5 inches) and added a 22nd-place finish in the discus (54 feet, 10 inches).

Avery Thornton recorded a 15th-place finish in the javelin (65 feet, 9 inches), and Abigail Rosenthal placed 24th in the shot put (20 feet, 4 inches). Additional scoring came from Rose Kelly, who placed sixth in the triple jump (27 feet) and 24th in the long jump (11 feet, 7 inches).
