

Sety Wins at 2B/1B League Meetup in Newport

Chewelah and Kettle Falls athletes battled against league foes on April 15 at the NE2B/1B Meet No. 1 at Newport High School, while Northport also turned in a strong day on the boys side.
Chewelah’s boys finished seventh in the team standings with 47 points, led by a big day from Francis Sety. Sety won the 400 meters in 52.98 seconds, captured the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches, and added another victory in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 6 inches. AJ Kent also scored for the Cougars with a third-place finish in the 200 in 24.33.
On the girls' side, Chewelah tied for third in the team standings with 67.5 points. Marianne Thomason led the way with victories in both the 100 and 200, winning in 13.72 and 28.52. Rin Parsons added a first-place finish in the 400 in 1:03.92, while Mei Parsons placed third in the 800 in 2:51.97. Chewelah’s 400 relay team also claimed first in 53.68.
Kettle Falls finished eighth in the boys team race with 39 points and seventh in the girls standings with 34. The Bulldogs’ top boys performances came in the throws and jumps, where Sam Lotze won the shot put with a mark of 40 feet, 4 inches, Owen Rosenthal placed second in the javelin at 149 feet, 11 inches, and Mason Reeves took third in the triple jump at 36 feet, 7.5 inches. Kettle Falls also got a third-place finish from Audrey Esvelt in the girls' 200 in 29.38, while Esvelt added a runner-up finish in the 400 in 1:07.17. The Bulldogs’ girls relay team turned in one of the team’s biggest highlights of the day by winning the 800 relay in 1:59.35.
Northport’s boys placed fourth in the team standings with 57.5 points, paced by several strong finishes. Hunter Creach took third in the 110-meter hurdles in 21.61, Pete Beardslee was third in the 300 hurdles in 46.34, and the Northport 1,600 relay team placed second in 3:54.65. In the field events, Dalen Benjamin earned third in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 4 inches, while Blaine Rieckers finished second in the triple jump at 36 feet, 11 inches.
