Location Selected for New Justice Center

Stevens County has settled on the location for the new justice center, said Greg Young, county commissioner. The new facility will be on the same parcel as the commissioners’ building, located at 230 E. Birch, said Young.

The decision involved the board of county commissioners and a siting committee of seven community members, who chose the top sites for commissioners to consider. A new site favored by Young, located at 2190 N. Hwy. 395 in Colville, had previously been considered, but it didn’t meet feasibility needs. “It didn’t pan out, so we came back to the number one spot that the siting committee picked,” which was the Birch Street space, he said.

The new building aims to significantly expand its square footage, as well as add more courtrooms and jailbeds, according to Young.
