Multiple Meets Showcase Local Track Talent

Pasco Invite, NEA League Meet, and Cheney Meet.

Chewelah and Colville athletes posted several strong performances Saturday at the Pasco Invite, perhaps the premier regular-season track meet in the state. Chewelah was led by a pair of standout distance efforts from Emmitt Warren VIII and Justice Whittekiend. Warren ran a personal-best 1 minute, 59.07 seconds to place seventh in the boys 800 meters, while Whittekiend clocked a personal-best 4:24.20 to finish 11th in the boys 1,600. Colville’s Malik Ortiz also cracked the top quarter of the field in the 1,600, placing 22nd in 4:34.81, and the Crimson Hawks’ distance medley relay team of Calvin Beardslee, Ortiz, Isaac Ballance, and Jerrin Patrick took 12th in 11:23.87.

In the boys' field events, Colville’s best marks came from David Jabaay, who placed 28th in the javelin with a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches, and Ah Loo, who tied for 20th in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and took 19th in the long jump at 19 feet, 4.75 inches. Mason Beardsley finished 48th in the 100-meter prelims in 12.14. Chewelah’s Francis Sety tied for 24th in the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches, while Kyler Sobosky was 46th in the shot put at 35 feet, 6.25 inches.

On the girls' side, Chewelah’s Rin Parsons turned in one of the area’s best all-around days, placing 21st in the 100 in 13.08, 24th in the 200 in 26.95, and 19th in the 400 in 1:02.04. Liberty Whittekiend added a 22nd-place finish in the long jump at 15 feet, 2.25 inches, while Josie Carter placed 24th in the 1,600 in 5:43.07. For Colville, Hayden Ortner ran personal bests of 13.41 in the 100 and 27.82 in the 200, Zaidence Zier finished 32nd in the 800 in 2:38.07 and 25th in the 1,600 in 5:43.90, and Andee Kroiss placed 19th in the 100 hurdles in 17.17, 26th in the 300 hurdles in 51.83, 27th in the long jump at 14 feet, 10.5 inches, and 15th in the triple jump at 32 feet, 2.5 inches.

NEA League Meet

Colville’s track and field teams turned in a strong showing April 15 at home in an NEA League Meet, piling up top-three finishes against Medical Lake at Colville Senior High School.

The Crimson Hawks were especially dominant in the girls' competition, where Hallee Kroiss won the 400 meters in 1 minute, 8.85 seconds, Zaidence Zier took first in the 800 in 2:41.23, and Andee Kroiss claimed the 300 hurdles in 54.97.

Colville also picked up wins in both relays, taking the 4x100 in 56.25 and the 4x200 in 1:51.96. In the field, Shelby Minnier won discus with a throw of 73 feet, 9 inches, Clarity Sloan won pole vault at 7 feet, Queralt Serra led a Colville sweep in the long jump at 13 feet, 11.5 inches, and Andee Kroiss headed another sweep by winning the triple jump at 31 feet, 11.5 inches. Colville also got runner-up efforts from Natana Sloan in the 100, Hayden Ortner in the 200, Zier in the 1,600, Andee Kroiss in the 100 hurdles, Rylee Brisby in shot put, Renee’ LaRue in javelin, and Kirya Zier in long jump. Third-place finishes came from Olivia Findley in the 100 hurdles, Matilda Longopoa in shot put, Jordan Dell in javelin, Emily Collett in pole vault, and Hallee Kroiss in long jump.

The Colville boys also delivered several standout performances. Malik Ortiz won the 800 in 2:05.26, Gabe Harper captured the 110 hurdles in 19.40, Kellan Horrocks took first in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches, David Jabaay won the javelin with a throw of 142 feet, 1 inch, Darnell Ah Loo won the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, Isaiah Ortiz won the long jump at 19 feet, 6.25 inches, and Bodie Nigg led a Colville sweep in the triple jump at 41 feet, 0.5 inches.

The Crimson Hawks added second-place finishes from Mason Beardsley in the 100 and 200, Calvin Beardslee in the 1,600, the 4x400 relay team, Cody McCormick in shot put, Trent Seitters in discus, Baxter Phipps in javelin, Ah Loo in long jump, and Isaiah Ortiz in triple jump.

Third-place efforts came from Ah Loo in the 100, Mark Neel in the 400, McCormick in discus, Beardsley in javelin and Ah Loo again in the triple jump.

Cheney Meet

Colville and Chewelah athletes turned in several notable performances Saturday, April 18, at the Van Kuren Invitational at Cheney High School, with the Crimson Hawks producing the strongest finishes among the area schools listed in the meet results. The uploaded results did not show any listed performances for Kettle Falls or Northport athletes.

Colville’s boys were led by a series of top-five finishes in the field events. Isaiah Ortiz placed fifth in the long jump at 20 feet, 1 inch, while Baxter Phipps took 21st in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 132 feet, 7 inches. On the track, Reese Titus ran to 28th in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:13.98 and came back for 26th in the 1,600 in 5:01.07, while Neel placed 36th in the 400 in 56.96. Baxter Phipps also clocked 24.53 in the 200 and 11.98 in the 100.

The Colville girls were paced by Kirya Zier, who placed 21st in the shot put with a mark of 29 feet, 8 inches, and Natana Sloan, who finished 32nd in the 200 meters in a personal-best 28.91. Paxton Jones added a 20th-place finish in the 3,200 in a personal-best 13:25.59, while Emily Danekas threw 76 feet, 2 inches in the javelin, and Renee’ LaRue reached 74 feet, 3 inches.

Chewelah’s top boys efforts came from AJ Kent and Kaedon Mendez. Kent cleared 12 feet in the pole vault to place fourth, while also running 11.88 in the 100. Mendez posted a 24.92 in the 200, Kyle Foster ran personal-best times of 2:20.44 in the 800 and 11:21.06 in the 3,200, and Fred Morris recorded throws of 35 feet 2.5 inches in the shot put and a personal-best 98 feet, 1 inch in the discus.

For the Chewelah girls, Marianne Thomason placed 19th in the 200 meters in a personal-best 27.68, Elise Warren took 21st in the 3,200 in 13:26.75.
