New Candidate Announces Write-in Campaign For Stevens County Commissioner

Gary Roach has announced a write-in campaign for the Stevens County Board of Commissioners District 2 position, citing his military service, business experience, and years of community involvement.

“Your vote would be a privilege to get,” Roach wrote in a social media announcement asking voters to write his name on their ballots. Roach said he is a Navy veteran and Eagle Scout who owned a construction business for 13 years. He has also served as commander of the American Legion post in Chewelah and spent two years as the organization’s state commander.

His community service includes 15 years as a volunteer Scouting leader and five years as a Wood Badge instructor. Roach said he also spent 10 years as an instructor with Evergreen Boys State, an American Legion program designed to teach young people about government and civic leadership.

Roach said he has served for nine years as an accredited service officer, helping veterans apply for and receive benefits. He also worked with state legislators in Olympia on legislation creating the county veterans service officer position.

Roach earned a business management degree with honors from Capella University in 2010. “As you can see, I like to be engaged with the commu- nity as a volunteer and want to serve Stevens County,” Roach wrote. “I respectfully ask for your vote.” Because Roach is running as a write-in candidate, vot- ers supporting him must write his name in the designated space on the ballot for the District 2 commissioner race. The primary elections are scheduled for Aug. 4.
