Northport and Inchelium’s Boys Basketball Teams Wrap Up Regular Season Play

Northport Finishes Fourth in NE1B, Advances to District Play

The Northport Mustangs battled through the Northeast 1B tournament last week, earning a win over Chesterton Academy before falling to Inchelium in the third-place game Saturday, Feb. 14, at Deer Park High School.

Northport advanced in the tournament’s third-place bracket Wednesday, Feb. 11, with a 72-57 victory over Chesterton Academy. Game details were not available at press time.

Saturday’s matchup between league powers lived up to expectations. Inchelium (19-5, 9-3) edged Northport (17-7, 11-1) 74-67 in a high-scoring contest that featured sharp shooting from both teams.

Northport led 17-14 after the first quarter and carried a narrow 35-30 advantage into halftime. The Hornets responded with a big third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 25-19 to take control heading into the final frame. Inchelium added 19 points in the fourth to hold off Northport’s late push.

Cameron Mawdsley led the Mustangs with 26 points, knocking down six 3-pointers. Beardslee added 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Young and Jensen contributed from beyond the arc as Northport finished with 10 3-point baskets.

Inchelium matched that long-range production with 10 3-pointers of their own. Gaige Stensgar paced the Hornets with 23 points, connecting on five shots from deep, and Ricky St. Pierre added 18 points. 

Northport finished 3 of 4 at the free-throw stripe, while Inchelium converted 8-of-14 attempts. 

Despite the loss, both Northport and Inchelium advanced to district play. 

Perez Leads Inchelium Past Selkirk in NE1B Bracket Play

Inchelium leaned on defense Wednesday, Feb. 11, to secure a 45-38 victory over Selkirk in a Northeast 1B third-place bracket game at Deer Park High School.

The Hornets pulled away in the second half after a tightly contested opening two quarters. Inchelium led just 6-5 after the first quarter, and the teams were tied 16-16 at halftime as both teams struggled to find consistent offense.

Inchelium gained separation in the third quarter, outscoring the Rangers 14-8 to take control heading into the final frame. The Hornets added 15 points in the fourth quarter to hold off Selkirk’s late push.

Derek Perez paced Inchelium with 21 points, including two 3-pointers, and went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Gaige Stensgar added 10 points, connecting on a 3-pointer and contributing in the second-half surge. 

Selkirk (9-12, 4-8) was led by Keaton Arrastio, who scored 20 points and went 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. 

Both teams hit three 3-pointers in the contest. Selkirk finished 7-of-10 at the free-throw line, while Inchelium went 2-of-8 from the stripe.
