Kettle Falls senior Mace Thivierge continued his strong postseason run at the District 6 2B boys golf championships, finishing third overall and earning a trip to the state tournament. The top 15 golfers advanced to state, with a three-way tie for 13th place marking the cut line. Thivierge finished with a tworound total of 154, one stroke behind Saint George’s senior Matthew Longstreth, who placed second at 153. Northwest Christian sophomore Dylan Zimmerman won the district title with a 152. Thivierge’s performance put him near the top of a competitive District 6 field and secured one of the league’s state berths. “Placing third means a lot. I am really proud of myself; I work hard and am glad I can finish top three in a very strong league,” Thivierge said. Thivierge said his putting was the strongest part of his game during the district tournament. He also said the opening stretch helped settle him into the round. “The first two holes definitely gave me momentum,” Thivierge said. Thivierge has consistently shot rounds in the 70s this season, something he said comes from being able to recover when a hole does not go perfectly. “What keeps me shooting in the 70s is my scrambling ability. I am good at damage control,” he said. Thivierge said his growth this season has gone beyond swing mechanics. “I have improved in almost every way, but my biggest improvement would be my mental game,” Thivierge said. Thivierge will now turn his attention to preparing for the state tournament. “I am focusing on consistency in my swing as I get ready for state,” Thivierge said.
