

Track Season Commences with Multiple Local Top Finishes

Colville boys dominate on home track while Deer Park girls claim team title in strong early-season meet.
Colville boys dominate at Fischer Jamboree
The Colville boys track and field team put together a dominant, all-around performance on March 20, piling up 105.5 points to easily win the Fischer Jamboree at Colville High School.
The Crimson Hawks showcased depth across sprints, distance, relays, and field events, outpacing runner-up Newport (57.5) and Omak (52) in a 15-team field.
Colville’s distance crew set the tone early, led by junior Malik Ortiz, who captured the 1600 meters in 4:37.99. Chewelah’s Justice Whittekiend followed close behind in 4:39.14, while Riverside’s Taegen Hart placed third in 4:55.04.
Ortiz later anchored Colville’s winning distance medley relay team of Calvin Beardslee, Baxter Phipps, Isaac Ballance, and Ortiz, which clocked 11:31.07 to secure another key victory.
In the field events, Colville’s Ezra Forester claimed the shot put title with a throw of 44 feet, 3 inches, edging Newport’s Rayben Jurgens (42 feet, 3.5 inches) and Omak’s Jacob Monaco (41 feet, 2 inches). Omak’s Talon Cate dominated the throws overall, winning discus at 146 feet, 11 inches and javelin at 157 feet, 2.5 inches.
Colville also excelled in the jumps. Darnell Ah Loo delivered one of the meet’s top marks, winning the triple jump at 44 feet, 0.5 inches, while teammate Isaiah Ortiz took second at 42 feet, 8.5 inches. Ortiz added another win in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 6 inches, followed by Colville’s Bodie Nigg at 18 feet, 8 inches, and Chewelah’s Francis Sety at 18 feet, 7.5 inches.
The Crimson Hawks went 1-2 in the high jump as Connor Titmus cleared 5 feet, 8 inches for the win, edging teammate Loo on attempts.
On the track, Newport’s Johnathan Hill turned in a strong performance in the 400 meters, winning in 53.02, while Deer Park’s Chase Bates (54.36) and Chance Taylor (54.61) followed.
Colville Girls Place Third
A balanced effort lifted Deer Park to the team title at the Fischer Jamboree on Friday, finishing with 82.33 points ahead of Riverside (73) and host Colville (56.4).
Riverside dominated the sprints, led by Ava Montgomery, who won the 100 meters in 13.22 seconds, followed closely by teammate Athena Jones in 13.37. Chewelah’s Marianne Thomason placed third in 13.64.
Montgomery also placed third in the 400 meters (1:08.28). Chewelah’s Rin Parsons delivered one of the top local performances of the day, finishing second in 1:03.87.
In the distance events, Republic freshman Gabriella Gliddon turned in a strong showing, winning the 1600 meters in 5:39.45. Colville’s Zaidence Zier was close behind in 5:43.69, while Newport’s Olivia Collins placed third in 5:54.14.
Relays also played a key role in the team race. Davenport captured the 4x200 relay in 1:55.08, while Colville’s team of Ellie Malone, Natana Sloan, Hayden Ortner, and Clarity Sloan took second place in 1:56.40. Tonasket’s B team won the 4x100 relay in 56.24.
In the field events, Riverside’s Athena Jones added to her strong day with a win in the shot put at 34 feet, 2 inches. Deer Park’s Mattison Wainwright (27 feet, 7.5 inches), and Colville’s Rylee Brisby (27 feet, 6.5 inches) followed.
Inchelium’s Skyla Peone claimed the discus title with a throw of 86 feet.
Chewelah’s Liberty Whittekiend highlighted a strong showing for the Cougars with a third-place finish in the long jump (14 feet, 10.5 inches), while Colville’s Brinley Haynes placed third in the triple jump at 27 feet, 9.5 inches.
