Two Homes Burn in Addy Last Tuesday

A fire burned two homes at 1445 Addy-Gifford Road last week. Stevens County Fire District No. 5 was paged on July 28 at 12:33 a.m., said Tim Adams, fire chief. Roughly 10-12 personnel, three fire engines, and a fire tender support vehicle responded to the structure fire.

The fire started at an old- er home on the property, according to the fire chief, and then spread to a newer, half-finished home. No one was living at the residence at the time of the fire, said Adams. The blaze was brought under control and extinguished before it could spread beyond the property.

A public record property search showed that the property is a 1,265-square-foot, four-bedroom, one-bathroom home, built in 1950 on 1.9 acres. The record also identifies the owner as William E. Green. At the time of the fire, the owner was out of state, said Adams.

He thanked his men for getting up and responding to the fire in the middle of the night. Fire District No. 5 covers 100 square miles of Stevens County, and is made up of volunteers, said Adams. Adams said the cause of the fires is unknown; the sheriff ’s office couldn’t be reached for comment by press time.
