Charles (Chuck) McComb

Charles (Chuck) R. McComb was born February 14, 1936 in Lansing, Michigan. Chuck passed away on May 12, 2026 in Colville Washington.

After high school Chuck attended Michigan State College earning a Forestry degree. He then served in the US Army stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. His title was Advanced Artillery Surveyor and a member of the 6333rd Special Marksmanship Unit Pistol Team of Fort Lewis, Washington. While on the Pistol team, he won many trophies and medals as well as winning the National Championship in 1963 and 1964. During his time in the Army, Chuck married Verna Kay Webster in 1961 and settled in Lacey, WA where they had two of their children, Rick and Debbie. In 1964, Chuck moved his family to Colville Washington to begin a career as a Game Warden with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Chuck was assigned to Sherman Creek Game Refuge. In 1966, their third child, Sandie was born. Chuck later took over the Little Pend Oreille Game Refuge where he retired from in 2001 after 36 years working for the WDFW. Family memories include time at the Game Refuge and the cabin there.

Chuck is best known in Colville as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 904 from 1975 to 2022. Chuck was a father figure to many boys in Colville. His dedication and service will be remembered by many. During his tenure, 35 Scouts earned their Eagle Rank. He led 26 “50 miler” hikes, ski and canoe treks. for Troop 904.He also served on Wood Badge staff for many years. His love for the outdoors was enormous and was at one time an avid backpacker and canoeist.

Chuck was also an accomplished Competitive shooter and started a gun club in Colville which would practice shooting under the Colville city pool. He later did reenactment shooting with the Single Action Shooting Society ( the Northeastern Washington Regulators) and was known as “Skeeter.” Chuck was also a past Precinct Chair of the Republican Party of Stevens County.
