Curly Grumbach was born to Frank and Esther (Nylander) Grumbach in Grand Forks, BC on September 23rd, 1936. He was raised on the family ranch north of Curlew where he cultivated his passion for hunting, fishing, farming, and ranching.
Curly attended Curlew School and graduated in 1955. He then served for the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. He returned home to the family ranch where he built his legacy with his father Frank and grandfather Theo Grumbach.
On June 20th, 1959 he married Aldena Hilderbrant and together they had two children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Curly believed strongly in showing up for his community. Over the years, Curly served on the executive board for the Washington Cattlemen's Association as well as President for the Ferry County Cattlemen's Association. He served on the Curlew School board and was an active member of the Eagle Cliff Grange. Curly also enjoyed supporting Curlew sports programs, as he was a 3-sport athlete himself.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aldena, sons Doug and Ron, grandchildren Amanda, Coby, Hallie, Alexis, Drew, great grand-child Madden and sister Marilyn Schoonover. He was preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Esther, step mother Margaret, and brother Delbert.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm, March 28, 2026 at the Curlew School with a potluck gathering to follow.
