Michael (Mike) Henning passed from this life into his Savior’s presence on April 12, 2026 in Spokane, WA. Born August 12, 1945 to Russell and Mildred Henning in Spokane, Mike grew up on 5 Mile Prairie and attended the Mead School District for 12 years, graduating in 1963 from Mead High School. Mike was the Senior Class President and president of the Honor Society that year. Mike married his high school sweetheart,

Connie, on April 9, 1966 and together they raised two boys, Christopher (Chris) and Tracey (T.R.). Mike was gifted with many abilities which gave him many opportunities in life. He joined the Navy in January 1964 and served 4 years as an electronic technician (ET) during the Vietnam war, serving on several ships. After serving his country, Mike worked at Boeing in Kent, WA for a while but was tired of electronics and decided to work in banking. Again, not feeling he was doing what his heart wanted him to do, he wanted to move on. His heart wanted him to serve people. This led to Mike becoming a Seattle Police Officer in 1969. He loved his job and served for 10 years until injured in an auto accident at work, which was not his fault, which led to his police retirement. In the early 70’s he also owned 40 acres of U-Pick strawberries (Sturm’s Strawberries) on 5 Mile Prairie. His Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, wanted Mike in His service.

Mike couldn’t serve as a police officer anymore, so moved his family to Spokane so he could attend Inland Empire School of the Bible, graduating in 1983. Mike was a full time minister of the gospel for 20 years. He served as the pastor at 9 Mile Community Church while in college. After graduation, Mike and his family moved to Colville, WA in 1983 and planted Grace Evangelical Free Church (Grace Bible Church). After serving 5 years as pastor, Mike worked as the Missionary for Church

Extension, planting churches for the Northern Mountain District of the Evangelical Free Church. During this time on August 18, 1988 Mike’s oldest son Chris died in a motorcycle accident. Needless to say this was a difficult time. But, our Lord gave Mike strength to heal enough to take on

the pastoral ministry at First Evangelical Free Church (Three Crosses) for 7 more years. This is the church he and Connie were married in back in 1966. Mike retired from full time ministry in 1997, but served in the churches he and Connie attended. After Mike retired from ministry, he and Connie worked with their son Tracey as partners in several successful businesses. They owned the Spokane Power & Fitness Gym, The Ladies Fitness Center & Tropical Tan Tanning Salon, all in Spokane for 10 years.

After that Mike and Tracey worked for a half dozen years as Real Estate Salesmen at Windermere Real Estate, also in Spokane. At the end of his life, God gave Mike and Connie the honor of facilitating GriefShare at Calvary Spokane, where God led them to finish out their lives serving Him. Mike was gifted in several areas and had many interests, but his top priorities were his love for Jesus, his wife Connie and his boys Chris and Tracey. Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Connie, his son Tracey, grandson James Port (Kelsie), brother Russ Henning (Lyn) of Puyallup, WA, sister-in-law Pam Henning of Deer Park, WA, and a loving family of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mildred Henning, his son Christopher (Chris), sister Beverly Goudge, and brother Lee Henning. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, May 15, 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road, Spokane, WA 99218. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Spokane.
