Trina Rae Cox, age 57, a lifelong resident of Colville, WA, passed away on Oct. 5, 2026, due to Mesothelioma. Trina was born on June 6, 1969, in Colville, WA, the daughter of LeRoy and Mildred A. (Yaeger) Fletcher.
Her family resided for a time in Dayton, WA, where Trina spent her earliest years. They then returned to Colville, where Trina began Kindergarten. She was a twelfth-grade senior from Colville High School and an accomplished athlete. She participated in Track and Field with her main events of shot put and discus. Because of her skills as a thrower, she was given the opportunity to compete in Holland in the summer of 1987. Her favorite sport was basketball. She started her basketball career under Coach Ray Clark with the Betlin Girls, where they traveled across the West Coast playing tournaments. That team went on to be Colville High School's most successful girls' basketball team. They finished just shy of State Champions after a hard-fought championship game in 1987. She graduated in 1987 from Colville High School and then attended Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA, with a basketball scholarship and also competed on their softball team. Trina then transferred to Eastern Washington University, where she played on their women's basketball team and earned her bachelor’s degree in business and finance in 1991.
She used her degree to work at USB Insurance, Northeast Washington Tri-County Health, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and Washington State Department of Health over a collective 34 years. She was a dedicated, loyal, and valued employee.
Trina met Ron Cox when she was a senior in high school, and they dated throughout her college years. On June 27, 1992, they exchanged wedding vows in Colville. They welcomed their two daughters, Josie in 1998 and Hallie in 2000. The life they shared was filled with love, fun, hard work, family, and wonderful memories. They celebrated their 34th anniversary this year.
Trina was a gifted athlete and shared her love of sports as a multi-sport athlete and coach in the Colville area. She was also on the “renowned” Arden Tree Farm Tug-of-War team that went undefeated. She played many years of Co-ed Softball with her family and friends and then began coaching Kiwanis Softball with her sister, Tamela, in 1994. She coached both of her daughters from T-ball to softball to basketball. She taught them, and all the youth she coached, the value of honesty, hard work, strength of character, and how to love wholeheartedly. Loving her family was her greatest passion, never missing an event in her children’s lives.
She loved her life raising cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, and chickens on the family farm. She grew up showing sheep through 4-H at the Northeast Washington Fair. She supported young farmers as a 4-H Leader and was the Sheep Barn Superintendent at the Northeast Washington Fair for over 25 years. Trina also served as the Royalty Advisor for the NE WA Fair for many years. Trina held nothing back in love, life, or her opinion if she was asked. She was straightforward, led by example, and a force of nature that left a positive impact on all the lives she touched.
Trina was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harvey “Dutch” Parcell.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ron Cox of Colville, WA; two daughters, Josie Cox of Colville, WA, Hallie Cox (Trey Flint) of Sandpoint, ID; mother, Millie (Fletcher) Parcell of Colville, WA; sister, Tamela Merrill (Shawn) of Colville, WA; brother, Travis Fletcher (Dena), of Republic, WA; In-Laws, Ed and Sharon Cox, Sister in-law Debbie Thompson (Tim); nieces and nephews, Cody Merrill, Shane Merrill, Trace Fletcher, Damon Hoyt, Tandice (Fletcher) Mickelsen, Cara (Thompson) Budrow, Caleb Thompson; a host of extended family and friends.
