JoAnn was born in San Francisco, CA, on July 22, 1943, to Francis & Bessalee Bacon. JoAnn worked for Providence Mt. Carmel in Colville, WA, for 29+ years until her retirement. JoAnn absolutely loved and was devoted to her family, enjoyed doing her ceramics and craft shows, playing bingo at the grange, racing cars in her younger days while receiving several trophies, and her dogs. JoAnn is preceded in death by her mother, father, and son, John Hamilton. She is survived by her sister Carol Simpson, son Joe (Barb), grandchildren Chris (Lucille), Travis, Tyler, Amanda (John), Michelle, Josh, Jadyn, Maddie (Zach), 9 great-grandchildren (Aiden, Braxton, Hunter, Dallas, Aubrey, Paisley, Lakin, Genesis & Charlotte), 1 niece and 3 nephews, 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew. Michael Larry Morey | obituary published by the Statesman-Examiner in Colville, Washington. Michael Larry Morey 79 Feb 12, 1946 - Jun 14, 2025 Michael L. Morey, age 79, a 30-year resident of Colville, Wash., passed away on June 14, 2025 due to injuries from a motor vehicle accident. Michael was born on February 12, 1946 in Wilbur, Wash., the son of Leslie James and Helen Gladys (Milliken) Morey. Mike was raised on the family farm in Creston where he began the day with farm chores before joining his classmates at school. He enjoyed afterschool athletics and played several sports but favored basketball season the most. In 1964, he graduated from Creston High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mike was trained as an engineman and served on a 180-foot buoy tender “Conifer” out of Portsmouth, Va., and a 95-foot ship out of Hilo, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged and returned to Creston, Wash., where he worked at the local sawmill and began raising his family. Mike also worked for a time as a police officer for the Town of Creston. His love to the land began in childhood and he returned to those roots often. Mike moved to Colville with his family and began working the log booms and river salvage as a tug boat captain for Columbia Navigation in 1980. In the early 1990s, Mike branched into construction but was drawn back to the water a year later. He retired in 2012 with over 30 years of navigation on the Columbia River. Mike was heavily involved in his communities and took the time to know the community members, families, their history and serve on fraternal, veteran and rodeo associations. He was always drawn to the water and enjoyed slalom water skiing, fishing, and his time in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mike also hiked, hunted, and packed into hunting camps in the blue mountains and northeast Washington outdoors. He spent many hours playing his hand at cribbage as well as other card games with family and friends. Mike also devoted years of research into his family genealogy with stacks of documents and pictures to pass on the knowledge. He would “raz” anyone to get a smile and was known for his endless generosity. Mike was a past president of the Colville Eagles Lodges and long-time member of the Arden Old Timers Rodeo association, Panorama Rodeo Association, Arden Hall, Northeast Washington Fair, American Legion and Creston Alumni Association. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Morey; his parents, Leslie and Helen; his sister, Patricia Morey; his step-daughter Sandy Morgan. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Conway (Ron) of Lincoln, Wash.; son, Kenn Morey of Spokane, Wash.; step-children, Barb Philpott of Colville, Wash., Tana Johnston of Loon Lake, Wash., Joe Philpott (Meka) of Kettle Falls, Wash., William Bray of Chattaroy, Wash., Jody Craig (Christopher) of Colville, Wash., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sister, Lauralee Morey of Spokane Valley, Wash.; and a host of extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagle’s Club in Colville, Wash., for all of his friends and family there on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Creston Cemetery in Creston, Wash., with a luncheon to follow on Saturday, Sept. 13, starting at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Arden Old Timers Rodeo Association or the Creston Alumni Association. Inchelium Improves to 5-2 in League Play The Inchelium boys basketball team put together a dominant three-game stretch last week, rolling to a pair of lopsided wins and a road blowout to improve to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in Northeast 1B North play. The Hornets capped the week with a 92-52 nonleague win at Nespelem on Saturday, Jan. 10, erupting for 35 points in the third quarter to turn a close game into a runaway. Gaige Stensgar led the way with 24 points, while Colton Abrahamson added 20 and Ricky St. Pierre chipped in 12 points. Inchelium netted seven 3-pointers and shot 40-for-92 from the field. One night earlier, Inchelium overwhelmed Columbia-Hunters 74-26 at home on Friday, Jan. 9. The Hornets jumped out to a 37-7 lead after the first quarter and never let up. Stensgar scored 20 points, Derek Perez added 17, and St. Pierre finished with 10 points as Inchelium buried 10 3-pointers and committed just five fouls in the win. The week began with a 66-25 league road victory at Selkirk on Jan. 6, as the Hornets’ defense held the Rangers to single digits in every quarter. Warriors Handle Chargers in League Matchup Wellpinit edged Springdale 55-49 on Thursday, Jan. 8, in a Northeast 1B South contest at Mary Walker High School. Springdale, which entered the game at 2-3 in league play, kept the game within reach throughout but was unable to close the gap in the final minutes. Wellpinit Runs Into Almira Coulee-Hartline Buzzsaw Wellpinit followed that win with a difficult road test on Friday, Jan. 9, falling 76-41 to Almira Coulee-Hartline (ACH) in a Northeast 1B South game. ACH jumped out to a commanding 27-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back, building a 53-11 advantage by halftime. The Warriors showed improved energy in the second half but were unable to recover from the early deficit. Thomas Dakota led Wellpinit with 16 points, sinking three 3-pointers. Wynecoop-Holt added eight points as the Warriors connected on five shots from beyond the arc. Despite the loss, Wellpinit closed the week with a 6-5 overall record and remained in the mix in the league standings. Chargers Secure Home Win Springdale opened the week with its most dominant performance of the season, rolling to an 88-37 home win over Odessa on Jan. 6. The lopsided victory gave the Chargers their fourth win of the season. Northport Still Undefeated in League Play The Northport boys basketball team continued its dominant run through Northeast 1B North play last week, picking up three wins to remain unbeaten in league action. The Northport Mustangs improved to 10-4 overall and 7-0 in league play after defeating Selkirk, Nespelem, and Cusick in a busy stretch that showcased the team’s depth and offensive firepower. Northport capped the week with a 72-49 road win over Selkirk on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Mustangs controlled the game throughout, handing the Rangers their sixth league loss of the season. A night earlier, Northport overwhelmed Nespelem 79-33 at home on Jan. 9, jumping out early and never letting up. The Mustangs’ defense limited Nespelem to just 33 points while the offense pushed the tempo and spread the scoring across the lineup. The week began with a hard-fought 73-62 league road victory at Cusick on Jan. 6. Northport withstood a strong effort from the Panthers and closed out the game late to stay perfect in Northeast 1B North play. Christopher “Chris” Gale Rader | obituary published by the Statesman-Examiner in Colville, Washington. Christopher “Chris” Gale Rader 53 Nov 15, 1972 - Jul 25, 2025 Christopher “Chris” Gale Rader of Colville, Wash., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 27, 2025, in Colville, Wash. Chris was born in Spokane, Wash., on November 15, 1972, and was adopted by his amazing parents Gary and Janna (Depew) Rader one week after birth. Chris attended school in Colville and graduated as a 12-year senior from Colville High School in 1991. During school and summers, Chris played football and baseball which began his love of sports and baseball cards. Chris received his first baseball card at the young age of 4. This was the start of his lifetime of collecting, which included careful handling, packaging, placing each card in clear protective covers and documenting their stats and history. Chris lost count of the amount of baseball cards he owns, but anyone can guess it is probably over half a million. Chris was often referred to as a “walking sports illustrated.” After high school, Chris attended WSU in Pullman, Wash., from 1991-1994 before he returned to Colville. Chris began working at Arby’s in Colville in 1994, where he met Colleen Jones. Little did they know she would become his wife in August 1999. The two of them worked together for two years before he took a position at Safeway in 1996, where he worked for 24 years. During his employment with Safeway, Chris started taking photos of sports in the Tri-County area. In 2020, he left Safeway for a position at the Stevens County Courthouse, along with freelance writing sports for the Statesman-Examiner . Chris then made the decision in 2022 to leave the courthouse and began employment at The Statesman-Examiner where he was a writer, reporter, and photographer. In August 2000, Chris and Colleen welcomed their first daughter, Emily Ruthann into the world. In June 2002, they welcomed their second daughter, Jay Gale Rader, into the world and in March 2007, they welcomed their son, Noah Christopher, who completed their family. Chris was an amazing dad who attended every sports game, even coaching some of the games. Chris attended his kids’ school programs, practiced catching baseballs or softballs, kicking soccer balls around or throwing the football around. When he wasn’t attending his kids’ own games, you could find him attending Spokane Indians games, Mariners games, traveling to local high school sports games, rodeos, parades, local events, or loving life by taking pictures of nature. Chris managed to catch action shots at the right time, providing numerous friends and families with memories to last a lifetime. Chris not only enjoyed sports, but he also had a love for the ocean. From the time his first daughter was born, they took trips to the Washington and Oregon coasts, visited family and camped at the ocean. This was a yearly tradition until his kids became older, and school and sports got in the way. Chris was a simple man. He loved his wife, his kids, his family, sports, nature, wildlife, shots of the moon, sitting on the porch swing during rainstorms, thunder and lightning storms, capturing the eclipse, northern lights and stars. Chris was a quiet man, but if you ran into him, he always had a smile, a “hey” or “hello” for anyone who knew him. Chris will be greatly missed by his entire family, friends and community. Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Janna Rader, his maternal and paternal grandparents, two uncles, Jon Depew and Donald Rader, and cousin Sandi Rader. Chris is survived by his wife of 26 years, Colleen at home, his two daughters, Emily Rader and Jay Rader, and son, Noah Rader, as well as one sister, Kim Moorhead (Brad) of Colville, three nieces, Madison and Megan Moorhead and Avery Jones, one Aunt, Rosemarie Rader, one uncle, Harvey Depew, and brother-in-law Josh Jones (Aaron). Chris is also survived by cousins Jonna, Bryan, Tana, Sydni, Ryan, Jenny and Eva as well as a long list of lifelong friends and a community who loved him. There will be a graveside memorial service on Wednesday August 6, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. After the service, there will be a private family gathering for his wife, kids and family. Chewelah faced a sharp-shooting Inchelium squad on Saturday, Dec. 7, and fell 52-32. The Hornets knocked down seven 3-pointers, including four from Seymour and two from standout scorer Marianna Agapith, who led all players with 23 points. Chewelah continued to work the ball inside and get contributions from multiple players. Watts led the Cougars with nine points, while Vioni added seven and Nevares chipped in another seven points. Chewelah kept things close early, but Inchelium created separation with a strong first half and never let momentum slip. The Cougars opened the tournament Friday, Dec. 6, against host Northport and held a 17-13 lead after the first quarter. But Northport responded with a 20-4 run in the third quarter, powered by the inside scoring of Kate Beardslee, who finished with 24 points. Chewelah fought back with nine points in the fourth, but the Mustangs held on for a 43-36 win. Davis drilled three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points. Alford “Al” Eugene McClellan | obituary published by the Statesman-Examiner in Colville, Washington. Alford “Al” Eugene McClellan 97 May 29, 1928 - Jul 16, 2025 Alford “Al” Eugene McClellan, age 97, a 35-year resident of Colville, Wash., passed away on July 16, 2025 in Colville. Al was born on May 29, 1928 in Monroe, Wash., the son of Paul Leybourne and Mae (Fitzgerald) McClellan. Al was raised in the Snohomish, Wash., area where he began school at the Marshland grade school and graduated with the class of 1946 from Snohomish High School. Following high school, Al began working for Weyerhaeuser at the local lumber mill. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 20, 1950, and served the entirety of his service time overseas where he earned two purple hearts, an occupation medal (Japan) and the Korean Service Medal with two BSS UN Service Medals. Upon his return to the U.S. and honorable discharge, Al came home to the Snohomish area. He returned to the lumber industry and began a career in sales for Weyerhaeuser. He was introduced to Sharon Lee Scott which led to lunch dates, family introductions and a box of chocolates with a ring hidden within. They exchanged vows on May 25, 1957 at the Hitchen Post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They began a family and resided in Everett, Wash., with a two-year stint in Billings, Mont., from 1963 to 1965. Al and Sharon would share in the birth and love of eight children. They laid to rest five children from Cystic Fibrosis. Al worked in outside sales, and most of his career and was on the road with Weyerhaeuser. He retired in 1983 from the main sales office in Kent, Wash. They moved to Colville, Wash., in 1990 to be near family. Sharon preceded Al in passing on March 20, 2017. They enjoyed family gathering, watching their grandchildren and spent retirement nestled into their mountain home retreat. Al enjoyed gardening and with a large family, he grew a large garden. He was the consummate salesman with a natural born charm. He enjoyed telling stories, sharing in conversation and was known for his 10-minute stories that took an hour to tell. Al had a great memory, a great sense of humor which played well into recollection of jokes and countless pranks that generated smiles. He could stretch a dollar and make every cent go to work. Al embraced his holidays and gatherings with family. He also brought Christmas to local businesses with donuts and his Christmas cheer. Their family enjoyed many family trips over the years to the ocean, Yellowstone, Disneyland, camping in Ponderosa and family visits to Billings, Mont. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, 77-year member of the Eagles Lodge and President from 1968-69, and past member of the Hoo Hoo Club and the HUB Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon and five children; Michael, Kerry, Lori, Leslie and Kristy; a grandson, Alex McClellan. Al is survived by his daughters, Sue and Sandy McClellan; son, James McClellan (Shelly Gagnon) all of Colville, Wash.; grandchildren, Michael, Ami, Nicole, Cody, Kelsey, Kari, Kyle, Connor, Hazely and Huxley; great grandchildren, MacKenzie, John, Melanie, Briaunna, Amelia, Thomas, Ada Mae, Bryce and Ava Mae; brother, Ernest McClellan of Snohomish, Wash.; sister, Carol Jones of Snohomish; nieces and nephews, Ray, Linda, Laura and Ron; a host of family and friends. The funeral service for Alford “Al” E. McClellan will begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash.
